Couple of issues

Hi guys, as the search facility isn't working at the moment, I've been unable to find out the answer to a couple of questions and wonder if you can help?
I've just run in my reconditioned engine to 1,000 miles and had the oil change, tappet adjustment and new filter done last Saturday but then a strange thing happened. When the car gets hot, i.e. the fan comes on, the engine starts to 'hunt'. As you can imagine, when coming up to traffic lights or stationary traffic, it's a bit worrying. So I decided to take it to another garage yesterday and they found that one of the hoses from the rocker cover to the head (air hose) is leaking. They've patched it up as best as possible but told me to get a new one and fit it. Whilst it seemed to work for a while, about 15 mins, the 'hunting' came back. He decided to play with the air/fuel mixture and idle control and tuned it so that it didn't hunt or backfire.
It was running amazingly well yesterday when Rower saw me in Richmond but on the way back tonight, the 'hunting' came back. Not as bad, but it's there when it is very hot. Could it be the hose not working properly or something more sinister? Low rev 1st and 2nd gear is a nightmare when hot - it's like an old F1 car, rocking back and forth...you need to dip the clutch.
The other thing on the way back...had my heater on and it just switched off for no reason - has the motor gone or a fuse? Is it a common fault and more importantly, how tough/expensive is it to fix?

The hunting definatly sounds like an air leak on the induction, double check all hoses/joints
Here Here, what is probably happening is the extra air being drawn in is throwing the mixture out thereby causing bad running. Although when you find the leak (if there is one)you will have to get your AFM's set up as your garage has played with them, good luckCheers.....Tony..
All very good advice, thank you. Think it is that hose letting air in after all. Have ordered a replacement so I'll see if it cures it. Very true about restoring the AFM settings, will make sure that gets done correctly.
Will pop the fuse to the fan and see what the deal is there in the New Year.
