Chassis preservation.
Discussion
Ok so now i've got used to the car and have fallen deeply in love with her (even the missus love it!!
)
i want to make sure she sticks around.
After the purchase of the car i havn't got loads of ££ hanging around so i was considering a DIY strip and paint of the chassis tubes.
any recommendations/tips??
Cheers

You will find plenty of threads about this topic if you do a search.
Personally, I decided not to use POR15, but to stick with good old hammerite. After preparing the tubes using a metal scraper and emery strip to get the rust off, I washed to the tubes, then coated with Hammerite No1 rust beater primer, followed by 2 coats of Hammerite. This was the advice from Hammerite. I takes ages, and it a right fiddle on the outriggers as there is hardly any space between the tube and the body.
I still have the centre chassis square tubes to do, and all round the engine, but well worth the elbow grease.
Once it is all painted, then coat with waxoyl, sit back, blip the throttle and enjoy.

PS USed Por15 for the first time on the Cerbera and mightily impressed. Takes forever to dry though!

I'm doing my chassis at the moment, every night under the car scrapping away. It's not bad really. But have found some holes in side outriggers just behind the front wheels, so a bit of fabricaton required. I'm going to use POR15 too, and waxol in ceratin places.
I'm doing all metal parts I can get to.
If you want any info or help let me know. I should be finished in 4 weeks.....

Every night over Xmas holidays & beyond on cold garage floor till 3am with only Classic Fm as company. Wife & kids a distant memory and trying to leave me now. Crap in my eyes and frightened to blow my nose. (i thought smoking was bed for my lungs!). Now known to friends and family as a geriatric old git / get a flat cap and call yourself Fred Dibnah.
Good news is that it looks like new now and should last FOREVER.
Bad news is that it will be THAT long before i salvage my marriage, my kids remember who i am and i'm allowed to drive it again without the wife changing the locks on the house.
What's more, all my hard work is invisible if your not lying under the sodding car.
Is this the mumblings of a REAL enthusiast or should I advise you guys to save yourselves the hassle and Waxoyl ridden hair and pay some other bugger to do it?
Enjoy the experience!
