Hi

Happy New Year to all!!

Can anyone provide me with fitting instructions for 4-point race harnesses to my S3 please. I won't be fitting a roll bar/cage to fit them to so was wondering where you secure the 4 fxing points and how?

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers
Jaye

Just a thought.
How are you going to avoid being decapitated in the event of a roll?

Its usually a no go for a harness without a cage in an open top car

According to the new regs for road-going vehicles for sprinting...you cannot use normal harnesses (as you have been able to for the last 2 years) and have to have approved harnesses fitted.

When it comes to roll bar/cage these are optional on road-going class - as is the case for the TVR Speed Championship - this is no change to the existing regs (well, for 2010 anyway).

Have been considering having the roll bar fitted (along with harnesses), however, cost is being prohibative at the minute frown

Unfortunately not frown

3 point harnesses are not permitted - has to be 4 point or more.

IMHO the rules have been made by someone not thinking them through if they mandate 4+ point harness but do not mandate at least a half cage. A recipe for loosing ones head!

Hi All.
Thing is with normal lap belts you can move side to side and even duck down into the seats, with 4 point harnesses you loose the side to side movement and your head stays in the upright position, not easy to duck down if you turn over or somebody runs over you.If you put 4 points without a safety bar you risk serious injury. one other thing the TVR is not going to be easy to fit 4 points in without lots of work and a roll bar gives you some good points to anchor a 4 point to.

Chaps

Thanks for your advises thumbup

Taking on board comments regarding the difficulty in fitting and the increased risk of damaged health I will look in to having a roll bar fitted again.

Anyone got any recommendations on places I could take the car to get the work done (i.e. roll bar fitted and harnesses attached) - also, a proper idea of cost (including labour) would be good if anyone has any experience.

Many thanks

Cheers

Please don't take this the wrong way chaps but do you seriously think you're going to be able to duck when the car is flipping through the air with insane rotational speeds placing huge G-forces on your body? Have you guys seen what happens to people's arms and legs when cars start flipping? You turn into a rag doll with no control of your body; ducking isn't going to be on your list of things to do. So for me, I've never got this whole 'ducking' argument with road belts.

But the roll over bar might just save your life when you come to a standstill!

Very true - although I have been mad enough to compete in the Speed Championship (sprinting) for the last 2 years without one.

I am just waiting for some more clarification on the regulations for 'Road-Going' cars in sprints to ascertain whether the 4 point harness is mandatory.

As I'm only planning on doing 2 events next year (due to other commitments on my purse strings - SCH2010 and the Eurotrip woohoo + other 'family' stuff) I may just give it a miss next year and look to fit roll bar & harnessess for 2011.

Pierce,

No-one says you can control yourself in those situations and brown trousers I am sure will demonstrate that biglaugh but with the four point harness you can't move at all even when road impacts with body and you'll get scraped/squashed. Without the harness your body will be able to move (or be moved) and will not be held still by the belt therefore maximising your chances of avoiding the road skin interface.

Also think of car coming over the top though or ploughing through barriers when you can duck, both of which are potentials when sprinting/racing. This is a case of minimising risk not removing it and IMHO 4 point and no roll cage increases risk over 3 point and no roll cage whereas roll cage with 3 point lowers risk and roll cage and 4 point lowers risk further.

2011 is my BIG 40 YEAR biggrin

So I am planning on getting ALL of this in...

1) A full (6 to 8 events) of Sprinting.
2) A trip to the 24hr Le Man (in the S3) woohoo
3) The British GP (with the caravan, so no S3)
4) The Belgian GP (in the S3 - camping)
5) A euro trip - if another one is on the cards biggrin

Not sure what SWMBO will think of this list yet yikes but most of it has been 'suggested' and no real objections as yet woohoo

Cheers

I'll be going in 2011 with the group of mates I have an annual roadtrip with. Fancy tagging along?

That is THE best place I have ever watched motorsport, a stunning track with superb views. Let me know if you need any help planning your trip.
Thoroughly recommend taking an extra day to go to the Nurburgring for a lap or 2. In fact, the roads to/from the Ring are just as good as the track without the worry of tricked up porkers flying past at ridiculous speeds!

Assumming all goes well with this years I'd be up for another one wink
