V8S throttle cable

Calling V8S owners - does anyone know the origin of the throttle cable?

In advance of the 'Italian job' later this year, I thought it might be worthwhile gathering together a few spares to take along for the ride, and a throttle cable was the first one to spring to mind. I'm not too keen on spending £50+ at a TVR specialist for something I may never use however, so I'm looking for a cheaper alternative.

On the same subject - what would YOU choose to take as spare parts on a continental trip???

And depending on the coutries transitted you'll need an assortment of warning triangles, spare bulb sets, spare spectacles if needed for driving etc.

Touring spares should be the items that will be at best irritating to get hold of and do not take much space;

Drive belts,
clutch & throttle cables,
Multimeter,
PVC tape,
Gaffa tape,
Crimps & crimp tool / choc block ,
3' single core cable,
Cable ties,
WD40,
oil, water etc.


And of course, mobile phone and means of access to PH and membership of whatever recovery to UK service you might choose !

NB: Many of the free/packaged/discounted recovery services tied to credit cards and insurance etc do not always cover cars over 10 years old so caveat emptor.

As you will be driving similar cars for the most part then you want to try and avoid needless duplication of space-taking spares and should agree who takes what...i.e. I suggest that only one in three of you guys should carry a spare skinny...

Anything that would stop you dead if it failed, that could be replaced by the side of the road and can be carried... so:
Coil
Coolant hose bandage
jubilee clip (coolant hose)
Relays (fuel pump etc)
Can of Tyre seal

Spare Ignition Key?

The suggestion of a spare ignition (& immobiliser) key is a very good one. I've always carried one abroad with me since I was at Le Mans in the late 90's when the guy camped next to us lost his car keys.....

Kev is also right - surely we're not gonna need 10+ spare wheels! I suggest that those travelling with their other halves leave their spares at home so they've got some extra luggage space

Don't worry though Graham, after doing plenty of trips like this I've got a full list of "must haves" that I'll circulate by email in due course. This will include all the legal things like high vis vests which must be IN THE CAR rather than locked in the boot, etc, etc. Here's a starter for 10....

When my V8S throttle snapped I got a lenght of bowden cable from the local motor bike shop, soldered on a bif niple and fed it through the original outter and connected to the connector on the butterfly with an electrical connector block. Cost a fraction of a new one and 3 years on and it's still working fine so I haven't biothered to replace it! Might get a propper one for the trip though. Joe

I see that Clever Trevor offers something similar listed as a 'repair kit' for 15 quid. P&P is a bit of a killer as usual, so I'll wait until I have a larger shopping list, to spread the load...
