As there are quite a few people on here who insure with Hagerty who, as we now know will not insure many of the cars here.

Could it please be possible to `Name` others like Classic Line who do ?
I was with Classic line for my first years ownership and only changed to Hagerty because of the very low price.

Perhaps a name /phone number / website - would help a lot of owners get some new quotes.

Cheers, Adrian

You're very welcome. I'm going to try Classic Line and Peter Taylor and co for a start (I'm due June).

I have to admit I don't like ringing round for things like this, it's a pain.

I got the best quote from Norton Insurance Brokers. Insurance is with KGM. The policy is agreed value of £5000 and 3000 miles per year. Premium is £132.25. I am over 30, sorry, 40, sorry 50+ years of physical age (mental age 15) and the car is garaged with other cars to drive when necessary. They were helpful in arranging the insurance - only photos needed to sort out the agreed value, for instance. Cheers Tony

Are there other companies which do breakdown cover included as Hagerty and footman James offer, always found it very cheap that way. Easier on the paper work too.

RH specialist cars division 01277 206911 , both cars insured for £253 including breakdown and Mrs MnS to drive, think the S came in at around £130, limited it to 3000miles as that was all i did last years crap summer. They will compete with other quotes - Classicline was cheapest i had and they beat it even though the xs was higher and they didn't have breakdown inc.

I've used RH for the last couple of years, simply becaus:
1. they worked out cheaper for me when taking into account they include Euro breakdown recovery, and
2. they have not charged for a couple of named drivers.

Neither of these points are of use to a lot of people but they are beneficial to me as I always do a long Euro drive each year. Wiz, might be worth you checking with them in view of the "job" we've got on later this year wink

Think I'm still covered with Hagerty till October but will have to check on the cover for the 'job' Ian.

I tried RH as I had the Scimitar insured with them for the last 6 years and the cover is good - includes breakdown cover in UK and Europe etc. etc. but they were £185 for the TVR, apparently the minimum that they could quote. I have breakdown cover on other vehicles in the household so went with Norton at £132. The other reason was that I wanted an overlap between Scimitar and TVR so it made sense to take out a new policy for the S3. I have to say that I have had no problems with RH in the last 6 years, but no claims either. Cheers Tony.

Just a note of caution if changing your policy. I changed to Heritage from Hagerty this year and was entered for a classic car run around South Wales on Saturday and wanted to add a co-driver for the the day. Heritage do not do short term additions. I was quoted £57 to add another driver for the remainder of the policy, 10 months.

I don't know how many others on here let someone else drive their cars but it may be worth checking the additional driver options if you do.

In the end I let my friend drive 100+ of the 120 miles and had a great time. It's nice to be a passenger sometimes and enjoy the ride from a different perspective, especially the grin on his face when we had room to open the throttle a bit.........

Would that mean that when you are asked "have you ever had insurance refused?" you have to say yes? yikes

I thought the question of have you ever had insurance refused more aimed at the person not the car

I went back to Classic Line this month and the quote was very good indeed. They were fully aware of the Haggerty situation of course.

I don't think that Hagerty ceasing to insure types of vehicles counts as 'refusal', simply they no longer offer that type of businesssmile

Classicline for me as well. Their quote was less than last years from Hagerty and I now have cover if I leave the car on the drive.

Your comment that you now have cover whilst the car is on the drive is interesting Spludge - reason being that I was with Classicline for a few years when I had the S and changed because they were a real pain re leaving the car on the drive if it was "garaged". They said if I was home for more than 5 mins I'd have to put it in the garage (ie. in theory - get out of car, lock it, set alarm, go into house and then open garage, switch off car alarm and unlock car, start car and drive into garage, shut garage door then 10 mins later do it all in reverse ... not likely!) - barking mad and they wouldn't see the nonsense that meant - so what is the deal about that now or have you just got the car as left on the drive rather than garaged? If their position is still the same about not leaving on the drive I won't go near them again - how are you supposed to let the car dry when its been washed, etc. ...
Re Hagerty - I had a chat with them at Tatton Show and they are not too happy about the position it leaves them in (they have after all lost a large amount of business) and agree it makes no sense as they offer a policy underwritten by Allianz who have told them they will no longer allow them to cover TVRs built after 1980. Seems straightforward but then one of the other TVR insurers (Mannings I think but not sure) are also underwritten by Allianz and they have not been stopped from taking the later than 1980 TVR business which does seem to be a bit strange - so all in all its Allianz that is the problem rather than Hagerty.
