Folding Roof the the S Series
Discussion
Had a meet with Roger Morris today to look at the prototype folding hood and I was inpressed. When not erected it will fit very easily in the boot or indeed behind the seats. Fixes in place very securely and looks good. The bracing strut is 'clicked' straight and a sleeve slid over the joint for ridigity and then the whole strut is twisted to lengethed it to brace it in position.
This is the prototype and needs some modifications eg the tangs are too long. The hood uses a single strut to brace it in place, the chim/griff version uses two. There are only five tangs not the 8 with the original panels.
Costs not yet settled, but the chim version is £475 but the S version will be cheaper as it only needs one strut.
Will keep you posted.

Thanks for the update Norman and your efforts in getting this project as far as it is
I am still interested although I am wavering a bit, for 3 reasons
1. Costs - appreciate it's still tbc but it's a big factor for me
2. Those bolts pointing downwards - I know there is a lot of head room in the S but in the event of an accident could the roof land on your head? Yes, it'd hurt with the standard panels, but would be less of an issue than one of those bolts coming down on you. Might not be a problem though if this strut is in the middle of the car.
3. Costs
Cheers,
Longers

Hi IanYep the strut is in the middle of the car and dont forget this is an unfinished prototype, see the struts on a 'production' chim roof and you will see the difference
Am I missing the point here ?
It doesnt look any easier than the original panels to put up or take down.
It doesnt appear to give any extra room when stored
Its probably a "Mod" ref Insurance and its untested...
I cant see it being any more watertight than a well fitting original, nor does it look any better...
Its not cheap.
sorry guys but I like my roof in two states currently
1 - Down
2 - Original
in that order...
each to their own and good luck to you if you go with this... but I just dont get it

It doesnt look any easier than the original panels to put up or take down. Yes it is, much lighter
It doesnt appear to give any extra room when stored Yes it does, at least a complete suitecase worth, SWMBO will appreciate that!

I cant see it being any more watertight than a well fitting original, nor does it look any better...So why is that a prblem?
Its not cheap.True

At the end of the day its much easier and more flexible than the original. I love the S but have hated the hood so much harder to use etc than other cars I have had in the past MGs/TRs ectIt doesnt look any easier than the original panels to put up or take down. Yes it is, much lighter

Definately interested depending on price.
Would be a real advantage on the euro trip, as I fear poor old Jane may get fed up of balancing travel bags on her lap to make room to store the panels.
Don't forget we've go 4 cars with just the driver, no passengers. They'll have plenty of room for "your" extra luggage Would be a real advantage on the euro trip, as I fear poor old Jane may get fed up of balancing travel bags on her lap to make room to store the panels.
