Well hopefully sorted out the tickover problems with the car and repaired the water leak. Took the car out for a spin last night and all was fine. However this morning it wouldn't start. Absolutely no life from the fuel pump. On closer inspection this evening shorted the fuel pump relay block and the pump is ok, tested the relay and that too is ok. Fuses in fuse box all ok. That leaves me with the next item in mind the inertia cut out. However all attempts to find one have been fruitless. Looked at the front of both footwells but not really sure what I am looking for. I'm afraid that on this occasion the bible has not been much use. Could someone out there please describe one to me or even post up a picture. Car is a 1991 s3. i know that the early 2.9s had a diode in place of the switch but I would of thought mine was too late for that? Help with this or any other ideas would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Crispin.

1991 S3C: inertia cut out switch mounted on the bulkhead. Small black box, in my memory about 8x6x2 cm.

good luck

Don't know what the V6 electrics are like, but on the V8 there are 2 relays. One switched the power from the main loom and one swiched that power to the pump. The pump also had a priming pulse that appeared to give power to the pump, but it actually only lasted for a few seconds. The relay was not kicking in the juice after the priming sequence.

Thought that I would mention it as it caused me a real headache. If it is the relay, I got a range rover one from the local motrofactors for £8, I will carry a spare form now on as it happens a lot.

this is getting spooky sledgedog.

Again, same car same problem. Even same day. Mine is now being fluffed by those lovely lads at Fernhurst. I am technically inept, so my limit was notcing that the whizzing noise wasn't there.

If you ever write yoru motor off or teh engine blows up, do us a favour and don't mention it!

Well I'm glad to say that I have fixed the problem. The old girl roars again. With some embarasement I have to admit that I caused the problem in the first place! Soldered on a new connector for the throttle pot yesterday and whilst taping it all together I succeeded in getting all three wires in contact! Ooooops Whata mistaka to maka. Trouble was I'd also been messing around with the spaghetti junction under the glove box and so I assumed it was somewhere here. Just thought I would mention all of this as because of the shorted throttle position sensor the ecu refused to switch on the petrol pump. Just goes to show that there is another problem that the dastardly throttle pot could cause if it was to short out inside or the wires to touch. Never did find the inertia switch though or even a diode. Beginning to think that my car has not got one fitted.
