Heater controls

Just refitted my dash yesterday after refurb,got to say I'm a little dissapointed in the free operation of the heater controls they seem extreamly stiff.Is this normal? The heater valve inside the engine bay and the demist valve on the heater matrix is free to move by hand so the only other thing is the control cables but they seem free within their outer sheath also. Any ideas?

Maybe the clamp that hold the cables to the control thing is a bit tight, otherwise a good squirt of silicone lube might help
