Why did they choose that?

I've just had my car serviced and for some reason when I arrived to pick up the car they told me they had changed the oil to Castrol Edge 10W 60 (for BMW M series cars). Quite why they decided to put this in escapes me - I have a suspicion they googled TVR S and got a recommended oil for the newer speed six cars. Anyway now its in there what do you think? is it safe ? Will it damage the engine or is it ok?

Sorry I can't answer your question but when I googled I got lots of different answers

Castrol says 10W/40
Opie says 15W/50
Halfords says 5W/50
previous owner used 5W/40

I'm still unsure as to what is best.

I put Mobil synthetic 5w50 oil in mine and it sounded like the tappets were away.
I now use Millers classic - cannot remember the grade but think its 20w50 and its sounds great.

I think your much better with thicker oil especially if you have hydraulic tappets.
