The wheels on my S2 were refurbed some time ago (see profile pic) & are starting to show signs of age again.

I seem to recall that some on here have had them powdercoated silver for ease of cleaning.

I'm thinking about having this done, but just want to canvas opinion from within my potential resale market first.

whadda ya recon guys?

Personally I reckon polished wheels look better. My S3 style wheels are still mirror finished, my S1 style wheels are polished but not mirrored.

I have to agree that the polished finish does look better, but the powder coated finish is soooo easy to maintain, and still looks very smart.

I had mine done in September 02, and I was just thinking the other day that they're still looking as good as when I had them done. I think that retaining the brake dust shields behind the wheels also helps as they don't get caked in all that sh1tty dust!

You can find full details on my car profile, dated 1st October 2002. Give me a shout if you have any questions after that.

Cheers Richard - The powder coating looks sweet! may have to go for that option as I have Repetitive Strain injury from trying to get the black sh*te off

Hows the insurance/repair situation with you car coming along? Such a shame that was one sweet looking S....

The powder coating does work well - just missing the black inserts. Mind you, V8Smith has the powder coating finish complete with black inserts, although they were already done when he got the car IIRC so he doesn't know the details. AFAIK if you wanted that effect you'd need to get the black parts painted after the powder coating and before the lacquering, and I reckon that'd bump the price up quite a bit!

Thanks! I'm waiting to hear from the insurance company as to what approach they want to take, then the fun starts!

I'm certainly considering powder coating after seeing Richard's. I think they look better without the black painted areas too, makes the wheels look more 3 dimensional. For those that don't have dust covers, I run green stuff pads on mine and get no brake dust at all.

One of the other advantages of powder coating is that if you decide to revert to the polished finish at any point it can be done no problem. However, there're only a limited number of times you can have the wheels diamond cut.

I think mine are powder coated, and they have the black inserts in a gloss type paint, which I personally think look better than having no black inserts IMHO. Richard is right they were done when I bought the car, I do think they look OK, but I would have had them either polished or the mirror finish like the originals as I think they look better, again IMHO

I got 4 new tyres at the same time so was able to send the rims without tyres and save myself £40!
