Oz Alloy Refurbishment

Hello Everyone I have the Oz alloys on my S and they are ok still original and fairly shiny, however ....if I were to polish them how would I go about it? Are they laquered and would this need to be removed first. Any specialists out there who could do them for me. Would i have to re-laquer to avoid them discolouring again quickly? All advice appreciated Damon

Yup, they are lacquered. Not many places have the right gear to mirror finish as per the original, hence some owners get them powder coated. Not sure where in the UK you are but lepsons and diamond styling might be able to help, they are the best in the south east bar none.

I got mine done at Caerphilly Metal Polishers, South Wales. £25 per wheel, three day turnaround. Not a perfect job because I asked for the black to be kept on the spokes but a couple of mm was removed on some spokes during the job.

No lacquering or coating in the price. I just keep them polished with Autoglym or similar.

I am very interested in finding a recommended specialist in the south west that can strip off the lacquer and reapply to make the wheels look exactly as standard. I don't want diamond cut, powder coated or anything else. Just exactly how they look now, but without the peeling lacquer.

Laquer will come off eventually, don't bother just keep them clean and polished.
The shadow chrome finish seems a very good alternative.

Yep, I don't care if the lacquer comes off - I'll just get them done again. I just want standard wheels.

When I was looking for somewhere to do mine, nobody I contacted would lacquer them because of the problems they had with it coming off again. However someone may do it for you if you guarantee not to return to them in 6 months with peeling lacquer

I went with the easy to maintain shadow chrome and am delighted with them

The original finish is Diamond Turned,with a lacquer coating finish. That's why polished ones don't quite look like the original wheels. Diamond turning gives a subtle grooved surface which tends to reflect the light like the sheen of oil on water.

So if you want the wheels to look like the original ones then you've got to find someone who does Diamond Turn and lacquer.

hi tinks ,try prestine wheels they will pick your wheels up courier service, from home with a 4 day turn around had mine refurbed and had a good job done kev.

Anyone refurbished wheels the hard way, ie manually!

Mine are a bit manky but the lacquer seems intact. I was going to give them a good scrub then see if clay picks the crap off followed by a gentle polish and wax if they come up ok.

I don't know if the lacquer will come with that though (if it is actually still there!)

these look better in the flesh too. We spoke at SClub and this is the route i think i'll end up going tbh.

Just had my wheels refurbished exactly back to the original finish by The Polished Wheel Company in Cornwall. Highly recommended and cost about £240 for the set. They laquered them but recommended I keep them polished.

I've put a couple of coats of Rim Wax on and will see how they wear.
