Hello anyone,

i've not been on here for ages & ages, the S has been in hibernation now for some time & it has come to the time to part....
grumpy

...anyway, getting a few jobs done... one of them is replace fuel sender unit, had a new one for 3 years sat on the shelf & thought it was about time etc.

cleaned up the old one for a look, & it seems like its held in by some bendy metal tabs - am i missing something or is it that easy??

havn't tried removing it yet as didn't want to break anything.

if anyone has anything to add to this before i try tomorrow i would be grateful!

....and if anyone knows of a good home in need of a freshly mot'd S....?

Sender is held in by a metal ring under the tabs. It should unscrew.
Replacement rubber seal and metal ring are Landrover code ARA 1501 and 1502.

In theory it is that easy.
In practice some have had problems with minor leaks.

Cheers

+1 red hermatite is designed for petrol which the blue one isn't

I used blue hylomar recently when I did my tank, one tip to bear in mind is when you have put it all back together again before you turn the lock ring round give the little lugs on the tank a little tap with a punch to make them a bit more pronounced so that when the lock ring is getting tight there is no chance for it to jump out of the recess in the tank, see pic below

Cheers.....Tony..

Thanks guys,

i will look at obtaining the spare bits today from my local parts supplier & have a go asap.

Just one other thing - is there much debris likeley to fallm into the tank when removing the old one & if so, will I be able to get it out?

just a quickie again, i pressume it unscrews anti-clockwise & pops out where the lugs open up?

mine seems to be a bit stuck & didnt want to force it, have drenched it in wd40 for time being, did anyone make a tool that located over all 3 lugs at once or just tap round with a hammer until it turned???

will be having another go in about an hour....!!!

I put a lump of wood against it and tapped it.
Lefty loosey, Righty tighty

Sealing ring looks like this
www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-ARA1501
As you can see the edge tapers up to the lug.
As you move the lug ( on the ring) around the ring becomes loose and can be removed once the 'dimples' in the ring line up with the dints in the fixing.

Cheers
Tim

PS did you see the thread by bilton-d ~ looking for an S

Edited to add that if some sealing compound was used by the previous fitter it may need a good healthy wack smash

Thanks for all the help guys, was a doddle in the end & took 15 mins once the metal ring came loose! I used the red hermatite stuff & plenty of it, not checked for leaks yet though.

I think I may have been quite lucky driving back from the MOT place, I have been running it low on juice just for this job & when i looked inside the tank earlier it was bone dry!!!

Being a glutten for punishment, i have also replaced the wheel studs & nuts whilst in the area!

Hopefully get some tax in a few day then I will at last be driving the thing after nearly six months.

It looks as though my new baby will be out of hospital in a few weeks, so got a couple of weeks to find anything else to repair or alter, then the dreaded advert will be appearing in PH & Sprint possibly.

After nearly 7 years of ownership its time to say goodbye.
