I've got a CD changer to match my headunit, but never got round to putting it in the car...

So out of curiosity... where have people located their CD changers, and where did you route the wires...?

Only place I can think of practically putting one is the boot. How you would wire this I don't know.

MP3 Player....

Each MP3 disk holds more than enough space...(6 albums)

What do you want that for anyway....I thought the music came from the back of the car....

And if you get a headunit that plays MP3's you can fit lots of albums on one CD. Of course, this doesn't help Podie one bit

Edited to say Bridgdav beat me to it...

Not interested... I have a Pioneer MD unit... and a CD changer (which is currently collecting dust)... I've no need to spend money on changing it... might be nice to have tunes occasionally (like on motorway drives)

I have only ever seen them in the boot on S's. I assume you can run the wire through the same point behind the doors where the boot electrics run through.

Mine was already expertly installed (i.e. wedged in) behind the passenger seat when I got the car.

One of the jobs on my outstanding projects list is to move it into the boot. I bought the velcro to attach it but that's as far as I got!

One day!

I have one, I located it in the boot on the shelf.

I bought some velcro and glued the hooked side to the underside of the cd changer, this then sits on the shelf with out having to drill holes etc.

The wiring was made easy by way of the fact that my car has Rear speakers, I routed the cable through the speaker hole with a little adustment and then routed it under the carpet by the door by pulling up the door seal.

Whole procedure took less than an hour which inluded removing the head unit to plug the cable in to the rear.

Mine also sits on shelf in boot (LHS behind soon to be junked spare wheel). Cabling fits under central tunnel cover up to head unit.

Same again, LHS of shelf in front of the spare, very securely velcroed in.

Wiring appears to exit via the left-hand side also and I presume it then goes into the passenger compartment and under the carpet somewhere as the transmission tunnel doesn't quite sit right.

BTW Remember for best quality to route the power seperately to the audio/control line if possible. Might alse be worth leaving another battery feed in the future for amp or whatever, as well as feeding some speaker and line-out feeds from the head unit while you've got it all open.

Mind you I must get around to fitting the amp and speakers I purchased for mine a year and a half back...

Hi Podie,

Mine is in the boot. You can run a cable under the passenger carpet as far as the seatbelt, then if you pull up the trim behind the roller for the belt there is a hole that leads over the wheel arch and into the boot. Once the cables are in the boot they can be tucked behind the trim carpet. If you had enough time you could try threading the wires down the sills, but this is likely to drive you mad

I would not want to have the changer any where it could be seen in the car, so the boot was my only option.

Hope that helps,

Z.

When I put the cd changer in mine. I routed the wires through the same 'tunnel' that the aerial cable goes through which leads to the fusebox area. I tied some string (very securely) to the aerial cable and pulled it through then pulled it back with the CD wiring attached. Dead easy!!

Mine is behind the passenger seat, it only pushes it forward by 3" or so, it's barely noticeable and keeps the boot free for golf clubs!

I just like being different!

Having just tried to find this hole, I've been somewhat frustrated as all the carpet around the inertia reel seems very securely glued down, and there's no evidence of any wires or conduit at that point in the wheel arch. Any chance one of you guys could give me a bit more detail before I start pulling all the bits of carpet up? (this is where I find that TVR used this method for the S2 and V8S but skipped it for the S3 - or maybe just my car! )

On the offchance that I can't use the other method, is the end of this tunnel easy to find Roy?

My aerial was a casualty of the accident, so I've bought myself a new amplified one instead, but it needs a power supply hence the requirement for the extra wiring, and I thought I might as well take the opportunity to move the CD changer at the same time.
