How are S's selling right now?

Hullo guys. You may have noticed my car for sale in the classifieds, it's been a fantastic couple of years with it's ups and downs, and feel it's time to move on! Been on some epic trips this year so far (dash to the coast and supercar Sunday breakfast club) and now need a break. So I've put her up on the PH classifieds.
Problem is, I havnt had much interest. Am I asking too much? Is there something I need to change regarding the advert?

Don't take this too personally but you did ask....
Yes I do thinks its too much money (by quite a long way). I'd reckon 4k max.
The fact that you are on the Isle of Wight does make it one of the last that us 'mainlanders' will check out. Add into that the 'I'll drag you all the way here and then there is a good chance I'll change my mind opening gambit' doesn't exactly attract views - so delete this bit from your ad.

Jev is on the ball. Location is a fairly big issue, as is the price unless its had a new complete chassis.
Ive just sold my S2 with 138k on it for £3300 which is a fair price, it'd had outriggers, rads, shocks, trailing arms, engine work, chip etc and it was red too
If I were you, I would shorten the advert to half its size, take out all the what happened stuff and just leave in the positives. Engine rebuild, chassis sorted etc then offer to meet people somewher on the mainland

I agree about the ad. content and the mainland location offer but the price is not so straight forward... if you want a quick sale then keep it low, but if you think its a fair price then stick with it... The Stiglet had the same dilemma recently and was advised his price was too high but eventually sold at the asking price... The "right" price is what the buyer is willing to pay, so dont go giving the car away mate

Please don't take this personally, but if you want the view of a potential buyer ( I have been looking for an S3 for a while now and red with cream interior is my ideal combo) the price is too high bearing in mind that it needs cosmetic work to bring it up to scratch. (if you pardon the pun!!)
The problem that you have is that cars in excellent condition are selling for between 5 and 6 grand and to bring yours up to that condition it will need the bonnet painting and the dashboard re-veneering at least (I don't know what condition the seats/carpets are in) and at the end of all that the car has still got over 100k on it which puts some people off. I met a guy at Sclub a few weeks ago who had paid £2700 for an S3 which was by no means immaculate but tested and running well.
I know that my comments will not go down well with everyone, paticularly those with high mileage cars, but as a prospective buyer that is my opinion, I will now put on my tin hat and prepare to take some flak!!
On the positive side, your location would not put me off, I have been up to north yorkshire and down to Hastings to look at cars, there are'nt many of these about and you must be prepared to travel to find the right one.
As has alredy been said, I think your best bet would be to,
1) Reduce the length of the ad, miss out some of the problems
2) Mention how much you have spent on the engine (provided Mrs Lukas does'nt read this!)
3) Say you would be prepared to go to southamton to meet a prospective buyer.
4) I'm afraid, reduce the price to nearer £4K
The suggestions that I have made are to get a quick sale, if you are not bothered about selling quickly then stick to your guns because they all seem to sell eventually.
Finally, please don't take any of this personally, I'm just putting forward the views of a potetial buyer, good luck with your sale.

The new advert is much better, but personally i would still lose the first line.
I'm not convinced you actually want to sell it, at that price and a "may meet Southampton" offer I think in your heart you want to keep her, I wouldnt blame you.

The Dastek Unichip, if you do a forum search you'll find lots of history on it. Austec the TVR specialists (near gatwick) were doing them alot for S Series and they improve the mapping of the fuel. Each one is set up on a rolling road for the specific car. I got better drivability which gave me an extra 40 lb/ft of torque and 174 Hp output

I reckon that the biggest problem you have at present is that people are just being very cautious about spending what money they have, with job security etc being a concern to mmost people. For example I am seriously thinking about the V8s in the classifieds but then again I keep thinking " I might need that £6.8k soon for necessities, its a really bad time to be selling or buying. I would try and hold on to it till things pick up in the market, I am convinced prices will rise but WHEN is another matter.Just noticed your other post about the V8s LOL

hi just looked at your ad again, I spent a very long time looking for my s and yours is lovely, I wasnt too fussy about it being a 1,2,3 etc as long as the condition was right. at one point I had 30 s cars on my ebay sold and unsold so i could compare prices and condition before deciding the price i was willing to pay on cars I viewed. in my opinion from your ad i recon that if you meet on the main land your car is worth between £3900 and £4200 personally I wouldnt sell it but if my mind was made up i would rather keep it than let it go for less than 4k. my opinion only but hope it helps
