What with the limited availablity of correct profile tyres and the inability of the lower profiles to convincingly fill the arches, I am considering putting some suitable 16 inch wheels on my V8S.

I do like the look of the original wheels, but could be convinced by the right style 16's.

Not being too up on tyre sizes, what size would be required to maintain the same overall diameter?
Anyone done this and found a nice style which suits the S? (Chimaera wheels would looks good... one pair on PH classifieds, but otherwise hard to find)

I've always (well for my 6 months of ownership) fancied 16" Spiders.

its not too hard to find RE71's - micheldever tyres always a good bet. For my old V6 I thought the RE720's were fantastic all round tyre, although they are only V rated so I know HarryW wasnt keen to put them on a V8S.

Be careful if you want to fit Chimaera alloys - for the S you will need 2 sets of front wheels if you dont plan on modifying.

i would love them for the chimaera but the hub conversion has an 18 month wait with the factory. As yet, no hub conversion available for the S, but if you were determined enough and had enough money to throw at the project, I am sure you could get a metal bashers to make some up - hell of a job though - i know the chap who showed the factory how they could get round the difficulties they faced.

I think I'm being a bit greedy as I have 2 sets already. S1 and S3 style.

Chimaera type wheels were sometimes fitted to the S as standard, though probably the 15 inch fronts. Would the 16 rears not fit then? There's a green V8S which appears twice in this months Sprint... I'm sure those are 16's fitted.

yeah, that is Pete Humphries S by the looks of it. To be honest that car is so modified (check out the running costs in his profile and he has spent £80k on it :eek) that they could be 16" all round with modification.

AFAIK any standard fitment of the chim wheels on S series are the 15" chim fronts.

Actually I may be getting rid of a set probably the S1 wheels in Spring/Summer. Should have 2 ok S02s on them. Mainly to cover next years insurace so I'll let you know or we can have a chat about it when I'm South.

Personally I would go to 17", but then that's me and I'm a bit odd like that.

These should roughly be the tyre sizes to maintain overall diameters

15" - 205/60
16" - 205/55
17" - 205/50

I think that the 205/50 profile tyres may be more readily available and cheaper than 205/55s.

It would be nice to see what different wheels look like on the car before purchasing anything. Have seen a clever little programme which allows different wheels and sizes to be shown on a side view of the car. Also I'm no good with things like Photoshop.

Don't know if anything like this exists?... doubt it!

Mail me a side on pic of your car and some face on pics of the wheels you want on it and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for that WildfireS3.
I'll get the digi camera out when I have five minutes and run off a couple of shots.
