tvr s1 water pump pully

the pully on my s1 (2.8 Cologne) water pump seems to have a lot of play there are no water leaks and the engine runs at the right temperature, is this normal? the single belt that also services the alternator is tight and in good condition any advise would be much appreciated

Dont think there should be any play. Probably the bearing is going but the seal is just about holding up.
Even the one I changed a couple of months ago had no play but was just starting to leak.

Just how tight is the drive belt?

its tight enough im sure! on closer inspection think the belt needs replacing so got one ordered, is it gonna be a new pump then??? where can i get one and how much? thanks for the post.

For 2.8 ones look on ebay - there have been loads recently and they are cheap (about £20-30), search on cologne under vehicle parts, accessories etc

Does the pulley bolt onto the water pump?
I assume the pulley bolts are tight?

no the play is internal think it is a bearing. been doing some reserch it seems ford changed the pump around 86/87 but the new gasgets have the same part number as the old????? so mistakes at the motor factors are likely, check your gasgets! still keen to know if anyone else has had this problem at the mo ebay prices start around a £15

found one with a gasget on e bay for granada/xr4x4/scorpio etc but it says 84-89. confused as i thought the pump changed 86/87? any one help?

Can you link to it or give us the item number ?

That could be right - the Jelly Mould Granada was originally released with the 2.8 V6 engine, the 2.9 didn't come along until about 1988.

item number is 320544150795 they only have 1 and if its the right one will buy it unless you get there first i suppose?

Looks the right one to me - you may also need a gasket for the rear of the thermostat housing - there's a seperate ally part at the back with a hose attached and the three bolts go through all 3 bits - the rear bit - the block - then the water pump.

You'll probably be OK with some of that instant gasket stuff in a tube if you can't get the proper gasket.
