Just visited Austec - how much power is possible?
Discussion
Hi all,
Just visited Austec this morning - turned into afternoon as well due to computer controlled gas gizmo failing. When we finally got the S2 on the rollers it returned a very respectable 172.4 bhp. Paul thought a few more bhp would be released after I have switched to Optimax and re-timed. (The previous owner ran it on 4star - so I kept same).
This car has not had any chipping or extras....yet. What bhp do experienced forumites think is possible from a S2 without resorting to complex projects such as supercharging etc?
What have others "scored" on the rollers?

Just had the Car Serviced & MOT'd at Austec and a go on the rollers - I was VERY impressed with the results:
174.3BHP
201.2 lb ft of torque!!!
never had it howling like that myself - (at 6200 rpm - I really thought something was going to let go!)
seems to pick up a lot better now - (must of burnt off a load of built up coking)
One thing that struck me was the max speed/RPM figures:- It hit 120 at 6206 RPM -
1) I guess this must have been in 4th gear?
2) shouldn't the rev limiter kick in at 6k?
overall, pleased with the service from Paul & Mike at Austec - but don't book in just yet, these guys need a break!

Alex - I called up Austec this morning and whilst speaking to Mike we had to stop our conversation 'cos your S2 was 'winding up' on the rolling road in the background!
Sounded good though. Can't wait to get down there in 2 weeks time!
I guess that must have been mine!
yeah - I was standing about 20 feet away - was much louder there!
stainless sport exhaust.....

Just thought I'd add my figures to the list (as I'm most pleased with them). My S2 (non-chipped) achieved 188bhp @ flywheel!
This was after replacement heads fitted, injectors cleaned, filters changed, stainless manifolds fitted, etc.
Beat that!
ps. Can't praise Austec enough - really top class outfit; friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the S series cars. Mike is a thoroughly-bloody-nice-bloke and showed much patience, even under my sustained barrage of phone calls and questions.
pps. I'm already saving for the full 'Podie treatment'!

I don´t mean to piss on anybodies fire works or upset Austec but I would take power figures with a pinch of salt
. I assume Austec adjust for prevailing atmospheric conditions (very easy for them as they could listen to Gatwick ATIS) but rolling roads are natorious for going out of calibration. The shape of curves etc can be very useful info but the actual figure can be way out. The best thing to do if you are into bragging is to have a rolling road shoot out day. That way everybody can be compared to see who mhas the most power! It could bring some money in for Austec and they could offer a dicount rate ie verybody wins! Just an idea? Beer afterwards for the bragging
. Of course I don´t have a car yet but will hopefully rectify that onve I sell my track day E30 BMW.
Regards,
Sean
