S3 - revs dying
Discussion
I have just got my first TVR - an early S3. Great car, but one problem - when I put first pressure on the accelerator, the revs die right down, before further pressure picks them up again. It seems worst when the engine is cold, and I have tightened the throttle cable from the engine end as far as possible. Any ideas please?

I've the same problem, identically - including it being worse when it's cold. I'm guessing it's the infamous "throttle pot" problem - but if anyone could confirm that would be great ?

for what it's worth, I've experienced similar problems when using a certain brand of petrol, but swapping to the "OPTIMUM" stuff has cured some rather strange idling and pick-up problems.

Likewise. Filled up a station a couple of weeks back belonging to a certain five pointed purveyor of liquid umph - and got a tank full of liquid crud instead. Very unhappy tiv indeed ! She's cheered up quite a bit since feeding on BP & Shell goo instead though.

I'm having the same problem (posted it up a couple of months ago - www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=11&h=&t=77877 )
I replaced my throttle pot recently as it was causing idling revs of around 3000rpm but it made no difference to the rev dying problem when cold.
I'm pretty sure that the problem with mine relates to a tired fuel regulator. I have bought a FSE Power Boost Valve to replace the fuel regulator with. Just need to fit it to see if it works !!

Re revs dropping especialy when cold.
Remove the rubber hoses, coming from the air filters, that fit on to the throttle housing. When you look into the inlet manifold you will see a lot of carbon on and around the throttle flaps. With a tin of carburettor cleaner and a soft cloth, give this a good clean. Once reassembled you should find things vastly improved. If not, get your exhaust emmisions checked to make sure your not running too weak.
