At my last service Tower veiw pointed out that the slave cylinder was weeping slightly - I have just checked the level in the resevoir and its pretty low.

Assuming DOT 4 was in it originally, then topping it up is fine. I think there is something about the compatability of DOT3,4,5 fluids in the bible. I recall that DOT 3 and 4 are ok to mix, but DOT 5 is different all together. Best check the bible.

neither DOT3 or DOT5 should be used in an S.

DOT4 can indeed be mixed with DOT3.

DOT5 is based on Silicone, not Glycol.. not compatable with DOT3 or DOT4.

DOT5.1 is a high performance (high boiling point) brake Fluid, often used with ABS systems. This can also be mixed with DOT3 and DOT4.

Use DOT4 unless you're going to do lots of trackdays, then use DOT5.1

Cheers

Sorry, I was just making general comment on the different types of Hydraulic fluid.. you're quite right the Clutch fluid will not get so hot.

Can anyone tell me what the slave cylinder is from?
My S1 is piddling the fluid, can only do about 1-2 trips to work(around 20 miles)and it needs topping up again!
Thanks
Paul.
