Update from the Dales

Hello all just an update from the sunny Yorshire Dales
Went to France at the beginning of June, to St Emilion for a week and took the S.
1500 miles all in and it was brilliant!
Had a minor scare just before leaving as took the car to the local guy and put it on his ramp for a final check - brake calipers (J) etc and found the solid coolant pipe around the block was leaking in one corner. A cut out and replace with a rubber elbow got us underway.
Once I had got the airlocks out of the system and with some topping up before leaving the ferry she performed impecably all the way down, with the sun beating down and 32C. We did Bedale - Leeds - Portsmouth on the ferry and then down to Poiters on the French Motorways. Then turned left and went cross country for 200 miles whilst managing to avoid the Gendarmes and their speed traps (Somehow)
What a superb drive nice flat, empty wide roads and the French even pull over to let you past, whilst winding the window down!
Spent a week in France with some heavy evening storms which has exposed some leaks in the car included one through the bulkhead resulting in a very disconcerting dripping on my left leg when we set off to leave!
She only let me down once and needed jumping when we went to leave but then started fine all the way back. I have since replaced the battery with 72Ah insteaded of the fitted and knackered 55Ah Vauxhall battery the car came with.
This meant the support car could be used for carrying more important cargo (wine).
Anyway a few pics below of the little convoy we had, the numbers correspond to the ages of the people involved as it was my mates 30th birthday. I have a few more pics to follow when they get sent to me.

The vinyls were magnetic for the Golf and mini so if anyone wants to borrow them just shout.
I got 30mpg on the whole trip which wasn't too bad given the hooning at various points. Nothing of note to do when I got back either apart from sick various bits of trim back on that had started to come off in the heat and clean all the suncream off the interior.
On a seperate note I have just picked up some Oz wheels as mine has the Chim fitted and I am looking for some advice on tyres. The ones that are currently on the Chim Alloys are about shot and the new wheels has 2 x Firestone- Firehawk in good condition, a nearly knackered Michellin and a brand new Kiwi Fit Ditch Finder. I was thinking of running the Firestones on the front but what would people recommend for the back? Also any advice on good cleaning products as they could do with some TLC.
Right that is enough from me I will go back to sleep for a bit!

will have to catch up and get the full story some time...
As far as the boots all I can say is that I would never mix makes... I run Conti's and seem to be alone in that respect but I have to say they are a great tyre and I would be happy to change them like for like when the time comes

Word of warning, you need to put the best gripping tyres on the back otherwise you can get strange handling or sudden unexpected break away at the rear. This normally means putting the new tyres on the back.Rob.
