Outriggers

Hi All, Well I have finally got the time to replace both outriggers and have got space at a local garage to carry out the work (its only been 5 years)anyway speaking to a local fabrication company who will make new, is there any reason why outriggers cannot be made from stainless steel as opposed to mild steel any comments?

Wotcha .. I was told they would crack ... ive gone for steel tube with s/s plates ... finally got the old cerb back together just need to sort the interior now its in bits and get an MOT!

They have been done in stainless - I can't remember who though - was it one of the Dutch boys?

No idea if stainless is prone to cracking/splitting (although think I recall seeing a "lotus 7" type kit car few years ago chassis entirely made from stainless).

Any issues with welding stainless to mild steel ?

My thoughts, for what they're worth, original chassis has lasted 20 years or there abouts with nothing more than some dodgey powder coating so wouldn't well primed and painted outriggers on a car probably doing less miles per annum and generally in better weather ( would guess most S's were every day cars for first ten years or so ) easily last another 20 years or more ??

Having said that some shiny outriggers peeping out below the sills would look pretty good

My thoughts exactly - plus mostly dry weather running too.

Thanks for your comments will see the fabricator and see what he thinks, but nice shinny outriggers would look good will definaitly go with S/S pads
