Flappy Targa Panels

I was happy in my world - missus in the passenger seat and both of us bombing down the M23 towards Brighton. The weather was a bit unpredictable, so the lid was on (or so I thought).

At speed (within the law!!) I noticed one targa panel was lifting, which looked far from some downforce device!

Having stopped and analysed, it would appear to be worn out targa panel lugs to blame.

I bought some new ones from S Parts, and Neil advises the lining has to come off, and the lugs drilled out and re-set.

Has anyone done this before and offer any advice , before I commence with surgery.

but aren't the lugs a big lump of steel and the pockets in the screen frame plastic ?

Thought the pockets would have worn out first ?

Why the ruler???

Hi Norman,

Im hardly a "techie" like a lot of the guys on this site, so it maybe crude, but the metal ruler spreads the compression across the join of the plastic and canvas to seal beautifully. The width of the ruler is almost identical to the job at hand and also bows to meet the curve of the roof panel. I guess it could have been fashioned with a thin strip of wood, but this seemed the perfect solution!. No real science.
