Hi all,

Canvassing more opinion again following a long conversation with Sharon at TVRCC. I am looking at planning SCH2011(a) as a single meet in May (exact dates and locations to follow). This will be the silver jubilee meet and will be of a similar nature to previous events but maybe slightly smaller than last years to give me the flex to help organise the event below (and the Devon Region as well now. Suffice to say it will be a good venue with camping and I have a runway so a bit of speed testing etc will all occur.

However, my conversation with Sharon revealed that the TVRCC are looking at having a showcase event at a track over a whole weekend towards the end of the summer (Aug/Sep), and to prevent "flooding of the year" there was a proposal (yet to be agreed) that this would replace the single model events - it will not replace SCH2011. This showcase event would have separate single model areas with a central arena to accommodate traders, food etc. So my canvassing of opinion is on the second part of this post.

Therefore what do the great and the good of the s series owners think of the second event (sitting alongside SCH2011 and not instead) - will attendance be worthwhile and are 2 events with a specific S area in the year warranted?

The venue for the second event would be within the Birmingham to Manchester section of the country.

Opinions requested

I'm slightly confused.

TVRCC don't organise single model events they rely on volunteers to do that and have only recently started supporting them (e.g. insurance etc).

Therefore, I'm not sure why the SCH event needs to be smaller (unless of course that is as straightforward as you are struggling to juggle everything).

Dates depending I would try and support both.

In the earlier threads, I think most supported the idea of a single model event, personally I like both.

Sorry Mark, I'm not helping much, but I'll support any events I cansmile

It's me juggling for the size as I am now doing SCH, the Devon RO, and possibly the S input into the other event. Note when I say smaller I am looking at about the same as this year, whereas I had hoped tom increase the size of the event. TVRCC don't organise directly but they do fund, provide insurance etc and co-ordinate quite a bit. Their input to SCH2010 was invaluable and it couldn't have gone ahead as it did without them. Simply without the insurance the venues won't touch us.

You have helped Dave, you said "dates dependent you'd support both" and that is what I was after.

SCH 2011 sounds good to me.
Never really understood how much of SCH or various other meets are Pistonheads driven or TVRCC ? I presume everyone is welcome TVRCC member or not ?

From what I saw I thought Chatsworth had become the "all model" meet scratchchin ?

Whatever you come up with your efforts are greatly appreciated thumbup

Good comment.

None are PH 'driven' as such, but PH is a fantastic media and many owners / supporters are not in TVRCC.

Single model events were actively discouraged by TVRCC (creating some ill feeling). However, for at least the past 3 years (maybe more) they have helped. As Mark says, without insurance many events would not happen and that element alone is great.

The driver is 'the member'. Volunteers (e.g. currently Mark) step forward and do the bulk of the work.

Chatsworth is indeed all models, as are BNG and other events.

Don't take any of my comments as anti-TVRCC, I am a member and support it, however it cannot do everything unless subs increase to increase staffing levels, but that could reduce membership - all the usual issues clubs face I'm afraid. A balance has to be struck and that will mean choices to be madesmile

Mark, another thought.

I try to get to a lot of events but domestics, money and other logisitics sometimes interfere.

Sometimes there are events I just don't fancy (e.g. the theme, cost of the package etc).

Although I understand the possible arguement about too many events can dilute attendance, there will be some members that can only attend a limited number of events, or perhaps travel a limited distance. For these, a higher number of events offers more choice and therefore more chance they will attend. That's good for the individual and it's also good for the marque.

Most events will have a limited shelf life, if popular people will attend and the events will live.

Once numbers dwindle, or interest diminishes for some reason, numbers will fall and the events become unviable.

It would be interesting to know how many of the potential 10k-ish TVRs around attend events and why some people aren't interested. Impossible data to collect though.

Hi Mark, I think withdrawing the single model events would be a retrograde step. People will make an effort to attend 'their show' I feel, but a bigger, all model show? Roar this year I believe had a disapointing turn out, is this because it has been rebranded as a all model, 'also ran',when compared to Chatsworth, show? I will definatly be coming to SCH11 next year, booking the day off work, if necesary. The all model show I will do also, if i'm not working.
The TVRCC should be careful about been seen to 'kill off' single model shows, this could alienate alot of happy members, who might just organise there own, small model meets, abstracting more members from organised larger shows.
Here's to SCH11 beer

Steve......... A happy club member!

SCH 2011 is my target for getting the car back on the road so will do what it takes to attend. I would go to the other event if it fits with other things but won't be blocking it out on the calendar as I'll be doing with SCH.

Obviously I will be fully supporting the SCH2011 - both in terms of doing my bit with the organisation (raffle) & attendance. The only thing that could prevent me is dates as I have a family event mid-May (but this should be mid-week, so shouldn't interfere).

The S might not attend though - as I am thinking of doing a full 'body off' this winter and we will have to see how work progresses wink

With regards to the TVRCC 'All Model' event later in the year - whilst I understand the wish for this I agree with previous comments re Chatsworth, BNG, etc. Also, the timing (Aug/Sept) could put people off due to holidays, etc. We shall have to see what the club comes up with.

I have to admit it is really only the S Club that has got me going out & about to other events - for example Newark Kit Car - as it's the camping, the company and the banter (basically the people) that makes it all worthwhile.

Just my humble opinion for what it's worth.

Cheers
Jaye

Mark

I will atttend both if they dont clash with family holiday's etc.

I do strongly think that S Club should retain its own identity and an event similar to SCH 2010 will be great, for the record I am a member of TVRCC and I think they do a great job, the recent BSG was brilliant, but wet! However I think the "S's" get a little lost amongst the newer model's.

I sometimes arrange corperate events, it is impossible to please all the people all the time!

Good luck and I admire you for getting so involved, well done!

Once agian if I can help with any small task's let me know

Thanks Gary

I would try and attend 2 events but out of the years events SCH is one I would always do my best to get to.

As Jaye said, its the camping, company, and banter. Having a few beers and talking 'S' with you lot is the bit I enjoy. I have found with larger events it can be a little impersonal if you just turn up for a few hours.

Also runway time this year was excellent fun and I would be up for similar again.

Hi Mark

I believe you already know my opinion from a previous post but to re-iterate my opinion... I would prefer a one model event in the same format as the previous few years and the qualification for attending should be a genuine interest in the S series car with past, present or potential owners being welcome (whatever they are currently driving) but it should not be open to all-comers and not be a shared or mixed model event.

I would attend an S-Club meeting come hell or high water (have done on the latter rolleyes ) but would only attend a mixed/shared meet if it was convenient.

see my other post ref the BNG attendance for example. It was a great National event open to all-comers, well organised and the weather was great, but there were less than 20 S's there on the saturday...

Could we do something in memory of Ken at next years S Club?

A 1 minute rev or something?

Just a thought, I am still saddened by his passing.

Nice thought Chris...

I agree.

How about a one off prize for the muckiest wheels ? he would have appreciated that. It would be nice to think he was having a chuckle at an event he always enjoyed.

Norman F has already approached the family on my behalf for this, it is in hand but need to let the situation settle before we discuss openly.

Things have changed as Dave has mentioned but I'm not sure you can have TVRCC backing without the event being open to all club members , you may target the event at one model and in doing so you should get mainly that model but i think to exclude any owners would be a mistake . I hope i speak for other owners when i say i understand that as i am no longer an s owner i should park discreetly round the back of the gathering wink
If you just kept it on PH and didn't involve the TVRCC you could do whatever you like but you would probably upset some owners .
