Instrument lights in S3C

Just had my first night time drive in my S3C. I'd heard the instruments could be a little dull but (naively!) wasn't quite expecting invisible.

So dumb question - is it normal just to be able to see the inside edges of the speedo and rev counter?

I do have the dimmer switch set in the "least dim" position and have tried the others...

At least I now know the driving lights are fogs - based on the logic that they don't come on with main beam and that the headlights aren't too bad!

I'm sure the answer is already in the forum but the search thingy is broken again.

I could read my instruments fine last night in the dark so may be worthwhile investigating further - I'd check earths initially and the wiring to the dimmer switch incase its wrong.
The V8S has a couple of big resistors behind the drivers front wheel - I took them off as I didn't see the point of the dimmer settings. I would disconnect them to check that they aren't in use on the highest setting - so you at least know the switch is wired correctly and you are getting the full voltage. I poked my resistor wires back inside the car and cable tied them up behind the dash.

Many thanks for the reply. It's good to start the process of improvement knowing whether "they all do that sir!" or whether it's something faulty.
