Cooling Fan Operation

My cooling fan came on today while I happend to be standing in front of the car and it was blowing forwards!! Its the orange type mounted on bars in front of the rad.
I have swapped the wires over and it is now blowing backwards but I can't feel any air comming through the rad.
The previous owner fitted a new rad and also tidied up the front of the chassis which entailed removing the fan. I am now wondering if it was wired correctly but re-fitted the wrong way round. Can anyone advise the correct arrangement and operation?

S1 and S2 had the fan behind the rad, sucking air through.

S3 had fan in front of the rad, blowing air through.

AFAIK, the fan blade shapes are different, so a "blow" fan won't necessarily "suck" efficiently just by reversing the wires. Still better than air going the wrong way though.

Is it a V8S? If so the fan is mounted forwards of the rad on those bars and blows air backwards through the rad. Joe

I think there is a marking on centre of the fan blades indicating which way it should rotate - what connection is there between the loom and the fan - maybe if that was replaced (mine died) it got reconnected the wrong way round?

If its any help Rob, mines in front of rad and roates clockwise looking from the front of the car and blows through the rad into the engine bay
