Hole in SS exhaust

The Stainless steel exhaust on my S1 has developed a small hole just big enough to fit your little finger in.
There are no signs of it being hit.
The hole is in one of the pipes just in front of the silencer.
It started sounding louder and a differant note after a blat down the M5.

I have tried a temporary repair with gun gum which has worked for 20 miles so far and I have revved up to 4k and its still ok.
Any suggestions for a more permanent repair or has anyone else got away with simple gun gum.
The exhaust was already fitted when I bought the car over 10 years ago so I have no documentation for life time gtee.
The rest of the exhaust looks fine and has always sounded great and there is no sign of corrosion which there shouldn't be anyway.

One thought is to reinforce the patch with a jubilee clip

How about a "mikalor" clip (often used as low profile exhaust clamps) much wider than a jubilee clip, should cover it a treat ?

I agree would not be difficult to weld a patch on
