have to say it didn't help me - conflicting advice so I am staying with brakes as standard.

Hi Mike,
This would depend if you want to upgrade for performance or just looks. sometimes you change front brakes and it upsets the whole balance and you then need to do the rears as well.

Going 260mm is a cheap upgrade - it seems to me going bigger costs quite a bit more. The 260mm brake setup was fitted to griff and chim 500's - and its bolt on bleed and go - bigger kits require driling the hub carrier and spacer washers which frankly I don't like the idea of.

When you see the increase in disc area / pads side by side its quite a difference even just going to 260mm.

Getting hold of the calipers isn't too hard, they frequently turn up on ebay as recon or new. Braking is amazing now on the V8S, I also have Tarox red dot pads bought brand new in the box from fleabag for a tenner biggrin

As I've said before you need the carrier brackets too, make sure you get them with the calipers if buying second hand.

Can't remember exactly but it was under £30, but they were big scabby blobs of rust!
Postage wasn't cheap, a tenner I think as they are bloody heavy.
I bought a seal kit from biggred 20 odd quid, plus in the end I needed a new piston which was £15 I think from brakeparts.co.uk, that had to come from germany, it took a few days. The piston itself was OK but the end that makes contact with the pad was very badly corroded so I replaced it.

It would probably be easier to buy them already done or send them to biggred for rebuild.

You need pads and disks on top of the above but these aren't big money unless you go for fancy pants stuff irked

I think the main problem is sourcing the caliper carrier brackets. - the original ones won't fit.

Thats the main reason I ended up going secondhand - there are a few knowledgeable sellers out there that are sensible enough to sell used calipers with the brackets.

Yes and yes.

The important thing is don't buy xr4x4 discs, they don't fit.
Xr4i or later models with ABS its the same disc.

Xr4i and Xr4x4 is the same caliper.

..... Or you could go nice 'n big with 278mm dia. discs and calipers from a Scorpio 2.9i but this requires spacers and 12mm mounting bolts.

Not me but I think the balance would be all over the place and the car likey to swap ends under heavy braking

Why do these people insist on coming on here and showing us their chassis porn? That looks almost too good to take on the road.
