grrr... My fuel tank sender has packed up (1990 S2), and after following advice from here and tvrsseries.com, It's definately the sender.

So phoned TVR parts... 3 different types of sender, confirmed which one i need (Single electrical connector) and surprise it's not available , I knew that would happen .

They suggested I use a later model (S29l 10039) which has a couple of issues for my tank.

1. It has 3 connectors on it, I have to phone back on Tuesday to speak to the service guy regarding the wiring. Has anyone here wired up a new type sender to an S2 type wiring (Single wire to sender and 1 tank earth wire)

2. The new sender is made of plastic and has to have some parts ground off to fit S2 tank hole. Anyone here done this also and any issues with getting a good seal ?

Or does anyone happen to have a working S2 type fuel tanker sender they would like to exchange for beer tokens ?

Got mine from TVR direct order. £30 or so. Check Pie's site for a guide to change it.

I tried TVR Direct but as i mentioned above they only have the newer version (NOT the single connector), I was asking had anyone fitted this type to their car as it needs the modifications mentioned above.

And yeah i used Pies site to help me remove the old one, great site !

Cheers anyway, I think it's my only option.

Although I may ring David Gerald in case they have an old one on the parts shelf.

easy to add second wire, as there is an earthing bolt next to the tank. You need to be able to crimp new connectors onto either the car loom or the new sender. Use two rubber sealing washers (i.e. your old one plus the new one you ordered with the sender) or else it will be too loose to seal. I don't recall having to grind or modify the sender at all for my S2.

Had a similar problem on my S3.

Picked up a new one from Christopher Neil (Northwich)

I had three wires (if you include the earth), but the new sender only had space for one (excluding earthing wire).

Now have new sender fitted with one wire connected to it, one connected to the earth and one just dangling !!!

Not to worry - works fine

Basically, my impression is that any 's' sender will probably do, you just have to be a little inventive with the wiring.

hope that's re-assuring.

good luck

Cheers,

You seem to have the exact opposite problem to me I need a single connector sender but can only get a 3 connector one.

The wiring I wasn't soooo worried about, my main issue is the fact the TVR guy (Blackpool factory no less) reckoned the one they can supply needs to have a bit of it ground off, I have no idea if it's a bit bit or a little bit. It was this that made me worry about getting a good seal, but I think using 2 seal rings *should* do the trick (I hope)

Thanks

Schmern if you get the new sender to fit and seal OK could you post as I've avoided getting a sender for my S1.5 for this very reason (can't afford to ar$e around as its my only transport!)
