S SERIES V8 Trailing arm bushes

Hi All,

Met up with TinksV8S Saturday to collect the parts I bought, trailing arms included, now where do I go for the metalastic bushes? TVR parts seem pretty expensive, can we adapt an 'off the shelf' Ford part or something? surely TVR didn't get specials made??

Slightly off topic but still related.

I have been getting a few enquiries re Powerflex bushes for the S series and I think I have persuaded Powerflex to make a set for both front and back suspension.

Is this something that the S community would be interested in?

Don't know prices or time scales yet but I suspect it would be around that of the Griff sets.

I'd definatley be interested in a set of Powerflex bushes for the rear suspension. Keep us posted on progress and ulitmately availability please Steve.

Fronts done already Steve, but definitely interested if you can get the rears....

To answer OP, I couldn't find viable alternatives & therefore ended up shelling out the necessary for a set from TVR Car Parts. Good luck if you do pursue further though!

There used to be some bushes available from a company called Polymax, but I believe they've now sold out and won't be re-stocking that particular size unless they get an order for hundreds ?

There is a company in West Bromwich from memory, something like "Classic Springs" who weren't very helpful when I phoned them but seem to recall someone posting later that they'd been there and got some suitable bushes ?

Don't know of any other source apart from TVR specialists (and TVR prices)


Year or so ago I spoke to someone at "superflex" (I think) about these and answer was they didn't make them because there were too many variations in TVRs measurements, or words to that effect ? Didn't make sense to me

As Mike says above I got the last 4 from polymax. They only make them in batches of 100, but I ordered mine nearly 12 months ago so they may have had another batch made up. If you search the forum the part number etc are all posted

I need to replace all so would be interested in a cheaper option. Want the car back on the road for summer so any sets too late for me I suspect

This a a drawing someone kindly sent me when I was trying to source an alternative supplier for these bushes some time ago ( sorry I've forgotten who)

As per this sketch my car had four short bushes per side. the ones from Polymax were about 72mm long I think, just shorter than the combined length of two of these. Plan was to use a washer to fill the gap but in reality they fitted fine, the extra length would have been a very tight fit ?




ETA just found Polymax invoice and checked dimensions (all in mm)

inner dia. 14.28
outer dia. 30.16
length of inner. 69.85
legth off outer. 63.50

Just dimensions will not do if you have them made.
You need to add tolerances, roundness, roughness etc.

I wouldn't say that steve as these are rubber and poly would be preferred, also Polymax will only make in large batches when they have enough orders, but I had the last of theirs in March of this year so at the moment I don't believe there are any available

Hi Steve,

I would love a complete set of bushes for mine. Were you thinking of the frictionless ones? So much better than the standard ones. Powerflex make the frictionless ones for the Griff, so shouldn't be too much of a problem for the S. Look forward to progress.

Here are the ones I ordered, these were the same part number as Mike (philpot) ordered and they certainly are tight in the chassis brackets so won't need a spacer washer. My trailing arms are off for shot blasting and powder coating at the moment so these will be fitted on their return.

Part Number = KPSB301463 d=14.28 D=30.16 L1=63.50 L2=69.85

Tolerances are:
•d 10± 0.2, 15± 0.15, 20-25±0.08, 30± 0.5, 35-40± 0.2, 45-50 ± 0.25.
•D +0.25
+0.05 with chamfer at one end.
•L ± 0.5
