Time to spray some WD40 in the passenger door lock. The key wont go in more than half way

Thirty minutes of twiddling later, we're not getting anywhere

Seem that the barrel is moving as I try to insert the key? Torch down between the window and door and yes something is moving but cannot reach it or see it clearly.

Door panel is going to have to come off An hour later I look like a failed suicide victim with fibreglass cuts and scratches across both wrists and arms but the panel is off Now where is the door lock... its behind the window runners

Ah inner and outer parts of the key barrel have separated. If I push the outer back in place everything works.

But if I replace it I'll have to do both AND need to comepletely strip out BOTH doors

You've guessed...... NOT a happy bunny this morning

I got both my door lock barrels rebuilt to match the ignition key. So hopefully you should only have to buy one new lock and get it rebuilt to fit the keys you have already.

Cheers

Is it possible it just needs a circip or something to hold the lock together? Also, you'll find thin latex gloves very useful to protect your hands when you're working inside the door.

You may be right, on the driver side I can see what looks like a tubular pin inserted into the outer part of the barrel. This is probably holding the two parts together??

Job for next weekend now.

i had to strip out both locks on the S4 as it wouldn't lock the passenger side and so the central locking didn't work, hence no alarm.
Took about 2 hours each side to clean the doo handles/locks.
Dirt gets up into the handle runner and stops it fully returning, hence no letting it to lock., yet close.
