Well my crystal holgen headlights from www.boltonbits.com (or wherever it was!) have finally arrived... who was it that fitted them to their S recently...?

Do the chrome rings need modifying... and is there anything else I should know before I start pulling my beloved car apart...?

Mine never turned up, but I reckon it's the same as fitting new headlights.

First remove the chrome rings, then unscrew the self tapping scrwem that holds them in place. This is not the two locating ones. Then remove the three tiny self tappers that hold on the locating ring.
Fitting is the reverse of removal.

I fitted new chrome bits to the lights instead.

Which Chrome ring? The inner or outer? I never used the screw to secure the outer chrome ring, just some glue.

Try not to adjust the alignment screws if you can get away with it...

chances are they have been set up using guess work in the first place anyway to be honest. I cant believe the hugely technical method of adjusting the beam angle on the S remains perfect over the course of a year following the MOT test.

fitted some fantastic bulbs to claire's S on saturday. Bog standard set up and the bulbs giv eth best lighting I have ever seen before on an S. They are so good that I shall be ordering some for the Chim - even though the lighting on that is 2x good as the S at the outset.

will find out. personally though i think those adjustment screws can be played about with and not really have any detrimental effect. Hardly though you will blind someone with the headlights from an S is there

seriously though - will find out where these bulbs were ordered from. Might have been nomad racing along with the rear lights. They are fantastic though - similar to the Phillips blue effect on full beam. 100W with blue tint and unbelievably good.

Podie,
I have recently fitted the Super Crystal Headlamps, it was nearly as straight forward as WildfireS3 stated, the night before check the position of your lights against a wall and mark their positions with a piece of chalk. The main problem I had is with the side light bulbs and holders (they are crap) the holders use cheap brass contacts that are too soft and will not hold the bulb securely. Having had one bulb blow I decided to use the old bulb holders, held in with strips of insulating tape.
The fitting of the light unit is otherwise very simple.
With respect to the setting up of the lights, leave the chrome rings off and after dark check against the chalk marks you made the night previous. Then take the car out down a nice country road and check the setting, If you want to make an adjustment find a nice straight road (not the M1)and stop with the lights on full beam, without the chrome rings you can now make adjustment to the headlight beams, then retry them whilst driving and repeat until you are happy with the light throw. It took me four repeats to get it to my liking. I will also fit new Phillips bulbs in the next few weeks.
The units look very good as it showed in the photos of AndyF007's car at VW in February.
Be careful when removing and replacing the light units as per the bible, use clotths to protect your paint work. It only took me about an hour to fit both units.
Good Luck
