I have fixed my wipers as of yesterday! Kind of.

Many thanks to Psychobert for leading me onto the park switch problem, which it was and a big thank you to David Batty who guided me through the diagnostic process.

Just in case other PH'ers have the problem here is the symptoms, tests and fixes:

Symptoms:

Loss of intermittent wipers
Loss of self park
Fuse blows and no amount of fiddling seems to cure it, until it randomly cures itself.
Eventually Fuses continually blow despite overfusing and fiddling.

Tests and solutions:

Remove motor strap, a 10mm 1/4" drive socket on a small extender bar a 10mm spanner and a friend will be required for this. Then hold motor away from the main wiring loom and test: if all is fine then the loom is shorting out on the motor. Bind up the loom. Be careful not to lose anything down the side of the wing especially the nuts and the rubber motor pad.

Remove plug from wiper motor, test wipers; if it blows you have a short on the circuit before the wiper motor.

Remove the park switch. This is the white plastic bit where the conector block for the wiper motor goes in one side and three spade connectors go in the other. It is removed with a screwdriver and levering it away from the cylindrical motor housing. You will see a small switch on the underside. Connect this to the connector block and press it. If the fuse blows, then it is your park switch, if not then your motor is probably shot.

If it is the park switch you can fix it temporarily by pulling out the small plastic switch and cutting it off. This way the wipers are never at park as the switch is never depressed. Once you have done this, order a new park switch.

Also wear latext gloves and eye protection or you can be like me with itchy hands and 10 mins of washing fg out of the eye.

Will post pics soon.
Hope this helps.

Well done for sorting it. Sounds like a bugger of a job!

Will look forward to seeing pics of this process, my 'park' hasn't worked for a while now, the fuse blowing bit was sorted by a squirt of WD40 on the connectors.

No idea how to do half the things in the description could be done as I could only get to the wiper motor area by being upside down in footwell, torch in mouth and working pretty much blind!

Ah the joys of TVR ownership...swap it for a porsche....NEVER!

Ah upsidedown in the foot well, that's how I got the FG in the eye. If I have time I will create a guide when I replace the park switch. Just waiting for the new one to arrive from David Batty.

P.s Don't worry Mike. It's really easy to sort out.

Glad its sorted.. All my cars papers are in the boot at the moment, hence I couldn't get to you with the switch number..

IIRC I ended up upside down with my head and shoulders in the footwell and legs over the back of the seat to do this job. Wasn't the easiest of positions..

The point about watching out for bits that spin off is a good one, never could retrieve my 10mm spanner from inside the inner wing bit..

Indeed. All articles I do will go to Pies.

Yep. I lost a nut and a washer down the side. I found that using a socket prevented losing the spanners.

IIRC I was thinking that just after the spanner span off and vanished inside the car. Oh well..
