Last winter I decided to replace the door hinge bushes etc as both doors had dropped. I completed the passenger door without any problems and it works a treat. Today I started on the drivers door, problem!. It appears that both the top and bottom bobbins are turning in the fibreglass. Has anyone had this problem before and if so how did you fix it. I have tried the search and come up with some of the previous threads but could not see one to replace the bobbins

There is 2 ways to do this, you can cut the bobbin out with a dremel but you will need to make up a frame so it fits back in the exact same place. Or I did mine by making up a 2 X long 10 mm threaded rods with a 10 mm piece of tube that will slip tight over the bar so you can wind out your studding into each boning, I then used the dremel and cut down 1/4 of the bobbin and mixed up resin and micro filler to a paste and then pushed it into the hole and let it set, just do the rest bit by bit.

Alan, a lot of cars are suffering this problem including mine. I've decided to attempt this in February. My problem is that the nylon bush has seized to the pivot bolt so I will have to cut the bolt off at sill level. I suspect the bobbin has also come loose. I think I understand your description but I'm sure a quick sketch would be helpful to many folk. Regards. Andy
Had another look this afternoon, it would appear that both top and bottom bobbin are rotating in the body and the bolts are solid in the bush's. I do not believe that I will have any alternative to cutting the top bobbin out and maybe trying to cut the bottom bolt. That means i will need to try and line the bobbins together before fixing back in.

I had 3 loose bobbins and one broken out on mine. The 3 loose where drilled and injected with special goo which a f1 employed friend of mine acquired. On the 4th i had to cut through the bolt and then cut out the rubbish from around the bobbin. Fortunately under that bobbin was another one which was in perfect alignment so there was no guess work. I don't know if this is present on them all? But it made life a lot easier!
