Hi All
What with the cost of refurbishing these days I got a new toy (well new to me). I had some quotes to do a full recover and to say I had to sit down is an understatement.
I got this and some leather and will have a go myself, will start with little bits.
first but hope to do it all myself.
Cost of machine and enough leather less than the quote for the doorcards.

I had a go and did one seat, got some re-work to do but after doing one found some replacement Chim seats and a complete second hand interior in good condition so stopped the work
What I did is here. There are a few tips that may help you, the main tow being:
1. when sewing with piping use a zip foot and you get a nice close stitched hem.
2. Make everything slightly smaller (by about 5%) than the pattern pieces and stretch it back to the frame to allow for past stretch in life

Thats a very handy piece of kit, I wish I had the space for one.
I have some bucket seats that need recovering so I've been trying to teach myself how to sew from scratch. I started with a fairly simple domestic machine (electric) but found it all getting out of control very quickly so spent a tenner on an old hand crank machine which I've had more success with. There's not much of the original covering left so I'm developing a pattern in cheap vinyl.
The tip about the zipper foot is a good one. Another of the essentials is to use proper leather needles. I also use a seam guide which helps me sew in a straight line.
