hi all

my drivers side wood effect strip is losing its plastic wood effect from the metal trim
any ideas on where i can get one from ?
i've tried one of the tvr breakers but know luck as yet

apart from waiting for a secondhand part is there any other options for me

i was thinking of replacing with real wood but what would the cost be ££££££
or taking off the trim and spraying it in satin black or something to tidy it up
what do you think ?

cheers keith

Mine were bit tatty and as they were the only "wood" in the whole interior I thought they looked out of place so painted them a sort of gun metal grey, interior is black.

Body colour might look good depending on what colour car and interior are ?

Alternatively, you'll find that the trim is painted alloy, so if you strip the painted wood effect off, and polish it, it comes up looking nice!

This was one of the first jobs I did on my car - it was meant to be temporary until I got round to getting them re-covered, but I never have, I think they look good. This is how I did it here

Unlike Tvrgit, mine were red rusty, so not alloy. S2 model

I covered mine with vinyl (dark blue) to match piping on seats etc.

Had mine done in American walnut, London Carridge Craft, absolutely super. I think £30 per side, well worth it. Had the glove box handle done to match.

Hi, just so I know what I'm doing, would you have to take the door cards off to get at this trim from behind, or can it be removed in some way without the nightmare door card removal ritual?

Door card off i'm afraid, but it's not too tricky - strip held on by 3 nuts and easy to remove.

i did mine the same but maroon to match the seat piping and dash top (also did the switch plate near the stereo where the mirror and window switches are housed.

I was reading another thread this morning about replacing mirrors from the outside to avoid removing the door card, and now this saying "nightmare door card removal" - it got me wondering about "perception" - there are people doing jobs on their S that I would consider a "nightmare" (and some of them I have done myself, and they were!) but removing the door cards, for me at least, is nowhere near that category - it's at the "piece of piss" end of the difficulty scale.

1. remove speaker - 4 screws
2. put hand in speaker hole, remove 1 or 2 tiny nuts on upward bit of armrest. This admittedly is quite fiddly, but go and buy some M5 wing nuts from B&Q to put it back together - then it's a real dawdle next time.
3. remove screw at rear edge of door
4. prise card clips out of the door along the lower and front edges
5. disengage the bent bit of door handle wire from the door lock mechanism
6. lift car out and up and it's off.

Then as scoobimax says, there are 3 m5 nuts under the foam, holding the strip on to the card - remove those, remove strip, watch that the bolts don't fall out of the extruded strip section.

strip/paint/polish strips as required.

Put back together - the only fiddly bit then is getting the little door lock knob through the top of the trim while you hook the rest of the card over the top of the door. Putting the window down helps.

No nightmares required!

TVRGIT advice taken, job done, no great hassle really, despite shearing the bolt above the speaker hole, new one found and glued into place, wingnuts attached and Bob was my Uncle! Then the door cable became detached as I refitted the card, so it all had to come off again, this time was easy! Lesson learnt ...... just have a go and stop stressing about stuff! Thanks Guys
