Thanks Norman what would an increased ET dimension do (think this is the offset) apologies for my ignorance. Also what is the rim width on standard S Alloys?

7 inches

Too much offset and wheels will stick outside of bodywork, too much inset and wheels or tyres could foul on suspension and fronts could rub on full lock.

Too much inset can, within reason, be rectified with wheel spacers/longer studs

Others may warn you of excessive loadings on wheel bearings etc but (imho) unless you're going outlandish don't think this is a problem.

Just a question about S3 wheels:
Because offsets and other measurements are hard to translate: can anyone tell me (in laymans terms) with wich 'regular' car S3 wheels are comparable. In other words, can I go to my local wheel specialist en tell him I want (for example) 'Ford Mondeo' or 'Mazda 6' 16" or 17" wheels?

This because I am thinking of fitting my S3C with antracite or black wheels, with a hint of 'spider' like look, yet not to extreme for the 'S' model.

Hallo Paul,

Lochkreis und Einpresstiefe reichen um die richtige Felge zu finden.
Die Reifenhändler haben die Daten je Felge vorrätig.

Good thinking, I went for these in the end, size 7 x 16 et25 offset, although I did consider having the rears done in et15 to bring the rear wheels out more

Cheers.....Tony..
