V8S Speed sensor

Seeing all the talk of new speedo's and speed sensors I decided to have a chat with someone at work who has a lot of knowledge of such things. He tells me that he may be able to come up with a solution that does not require the replacement/removal of the speedo. The thing is he needs to see an old knackered speed sensor. Does anyone have one they are willing to give up in the name of finding a solution?

My speedo was knackered anyway - so I either had to pay to get it fixed or pay more and get a new one. I am still running the original sender I didn't do the replacement sender arrangement on the prop or diff. The New speedo is a universal unit that can be calibrated to take a wide range of pulses / senders anyway so I figure I could move to an alternative arrangement later if I have to.

On the subject of a sender I have one that has had the wires ripped out, but I subsequently managed to fix it - the only question mark is if I got the wires the right way round.
If your potential testing is non destructive you can borrow it.

Does your mate’s solution involve grafting the V8’s drive wheel onto one of the more commonly available senders for that ‘box? Something which occurred to me when the wires on mine snapped off. I managed to find a new one at the time so I might still have the old one knocking about somewhere. I can have a look at the weekend if you want.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind if I cannot get hold of a broken one. I would hate to think of a working one getting lost in the post or accidentally broken, so if I can get a knackered one it would be my preference.

My mate is looking how he may be able to utilise a currently available sensor that could be fitted into the body of the current one. If you do come across your old one I would be interested in having it. All the talk of failed sensors and lack of replacements has got me worried.

When I was replacing mine last summer I found there were a lot of transducers available for the LT77 'box but not the one with the right combination of drive wheel and phase. Looking at Rimmer's site now though it looks like these other one's are becoming difficult to get as well.

I'll have a rummage at the weekend and see if I'll still got it. I rarely throw that sort of thing out on the basis that “you never know when it might come in handy” but of course sod's law could well apply.

I have also got a peugeot 406 sender somewhere - its close but no cigar - you're not thinking of one of those are you?
