Have developed an odd oil pressure issue, ticks over at 25 psi hot or cold but does not get to 50 psi at any heat or revs. I fact the cold pressure is lower at 2000 rpm than when it gets hot. I suspect the sender is faulty as a week ago the pressure was text book. Anybody got details of the sender, the links in the faq's have expired. Have seen a single wire one on ebay for about £15 but not sure if its the right one.

Dont think they have the V6 sender

But I THINK that this might be correct, would advise you to check with Keith at Clever Trevor

Check out my diary entry at http://www.deadpineapple.net/cms/index.php?option=... The one I used is on ebay again under item 270706336457. Note that it does need an adapter as mentioned in my diary entry but in my case there was already one fitted.

think this is the one I used, even came complete with adaptor up to 1/4 bsp.
Only problem I had was the stud for the wire seemed to be a streange thread, had to trawel through all my bits 'n pieces to find a nut to fit !

Ok so I fitted and new sender and there's no change to the oil pressure, ticks over at 25 hot as it should but only increases to about 40 when rev'd hot or cold. I am now wondering if I bought a duff sender or is it something else like a broken pressure relief valve spring. If it was general wear and tear I would expect the hot tickover to be below 25. Anyone know where the pressure refief valve is on the 2.9?

That sounds about normal to me. I had an engine rebuild last year and was concerned at the readings on the electronic guage. The gragage checked it with a capillary guage and and it was fine. The electronic one was under-stating the real pressure. So long as the pressure goes up as engine revs increase it's probably OK but take it to your garage and they can double check it with a capillary guage to put your mind at rest.

Is it a V8?

No 2.9 V6. Pressure was text book till about 2 weeks ago then suddenly won't go above 40psi but no change to the tickover psi which is why I assumed sender was at fault. Need to get a capillary gauge check now to see if there is a real problem. No strange noise or change in performance though which is encouraging. Will change the oil and filter tomorrow as an extra precaution.

What oil are you using in the engine - that may have a part to play in what you are getting as some of the low viscosity oils may not be the best for that engine. I used Millers CFS 10/60 in my S and it held the pressure really well even when the car was very hot despite the engine having done over 100k.

Got 10/40 semi synthetic in at the moment, done about 2500 with no problems, could understand it if it was just hot running but its the same when cold. Will change oil anyway just to make sure.

Change the filter as well incase there's something odd going on with it.

Could it be the guage?

Rob, I have a gauge if you want to borrow it or pop over and try it here (Redditch) ?

Thanks for that but tried earthing the wire and the gauge goes right up to the top. I'm going to get it tested with an independent gauge next week. I looked up the correct pressures tonight and they are not as high as I thought so maybe its not as bad as I feared. Hot tickover should be about 1 bar and 2.5 bar at 2000rpm, pressure relief is set at 4 bar (figures from Autodata and Haynes). This is about what I am getting except for the pressure relief which seems to cut in about 2.5 bar at the moment but was 4 a couple of weeks ago.

Incidently I think I'm nearer to you in the day as I work in Aston, from the back ground of your jetwash on the fork truck picture it looks like you are somewhere close to spaghetti if I'm not mistaken. sonar
