MOT Pass - Celebratory Pic
Discussion
So...She passed!! No advisories, just a suggestion a couple of bits of the chassis need the muck cleaning out and some TLC. guess that's a given though!
ECU back in and running really well in the cooler temperature.
Anyway, thought I'd celebrate by learning how to upload pictures on here! Added some of the Polo run on the events forum. This one is a special photo, not the same eyes, but slightly different widths!! One on the left is my dads, this is after we got back (just) from classic le mans last year.

Well one is a mans car and the other a girls .......
Only joking, really quite like Midgets
There was talk of a V8 implant....but deemed too bigger project. He claims his superior years and driving skill means he can still keep up?! (And after mentioning maybe adding an S to his garage almost ending up with divorce papers

Why isn't there any steam coming from under your bonnet...? Or was that just mine that did it...? It was HOT last year wasn't it!
Like I said, made it back JUST!! For the record - the midget didn't even so much as cough! (Tortoise and the hare springs to mind...)No steam from mine - just complete loss of power and eventual engine cut out. Still not sourced the problem. Reconditioned ECU, new coil, new leads, new distributor cap, replacement mass air flow, new throttle pot... Still don't appear to have fixed the problem. Starts when you 'give it the beans' to overtake something, get total power loss for 0.5-1 second, but if you keep your foot in the carpet it kicks back in. Gets worse the longer you drive, starts doing it in first when pulling away from lights, eventually cuts out and dies.
Any further idea's while we're here? Next theory I had - the petrol tank is very old. Could there be 'floaty bits' in the tank that get sucked up and caught in the end of the fuel pipe from the tank, causing fuel starvation? Has anyone had anything like this before?
Other possibility is injectors? But I've been told these are quite reliable.. If I'm still having problems come S Club Scotland - someone in the know might have to come for a ride to 'feel' what I'm talking about!!

I had a similar problem last year and eventually traced it to a bad connection - one of the two five-pin connections in the loom (nest ?)under the glove box. by wiggling (waggling ?) the connections with the engine running I could simulate the problem. I eventually found the red wire supply to the engine run sensor was the culprit. I have since removed the connectors altogether and , dare I say it Any further idea's while we're here?
have not had the problem since ... worth a look I would say, especially if there is any sign of previous ingress of water in that area which is faily common.good luck

Not to forget also the dreaded yellow connector under the column, in fact any connector involved in the fuel and ignition system. when I did my boby lift last year the fuel pump connectors where so badly corroded they fell off by themselves. That would have caught me out before too long.

Ketvrin this could be a good shout - the ECU has at some point been 'sitting' in water in the passenger foot well (Now relocated under the glove box) but I haven't done anything with the connector, so is a definite possibility...I'm just very nervous of even touching it for fear of causing yet more problems!
On the point of the Yellow connector...I have read the threads, and spent about an hour under the drivers side dash looking amongst the wires (annoyingly disturbing the immobiliser wiring and permanently immobilising the engine for a while....
and I cannot find a yellow connector anywhere...?! So maybe it's been replaced?
To be quite honest, there are so many wires all over the place, the whole loom needs ripping out and starting from scratch... Most of the wires seem to lead to dead ends and insulation tape!!!!

on my way back from BNG last year I had to drop the wiring loom and tie a rag around the loops so that when I went over a bump or around a corner and the connection was lost, I could give it a tug and it would instantly cut in again... much more complicated than left foot braking I can tell you On the point of the Yellow connector...I have read the threads, and spent about an hour under the drivers side dash looking amongst the wires (annoyingly disturbing the immobiliser wiring and permanently immobilising the engine for a while....

Welcome to the World of TVRs !I've been told that loom was hand made for S's not just robbed from a Sierra or something, hard to believe eh ?

What you need is a length of rope and a solenoid, that'll fix it.K

Update:
Huge thanks to Norman who has leant me his Star Tester. Performed full test this afternoon and reads no faults in any of the tests. Also tried extensive 'wiggle' tests with my brother watching the LED and nothing...
So I am beginning to think the problem must be fuel related. Possibilities:
1) Injector blockage?
2) Fuel filter (has been replaced since I've had the car, could this have been 'ballsed up'?!
3) Fuel hose? Could one of the fuel hoses have started collapsing inside so when I floor it the vaccum sucks the lining and blocks the pipe?
4) Petrol tank - It's the original, could easily be full of crap/corrosion inside and possibly the 'bits' get stuck in some form of filter the longer the car is running, hence the problem gets worse the longer the car is run
What a headache. I am going up to Croft in it next weekend (track day - Fast mazda, porsche caymen and a single seater) so I'm going to blast some injector cleaner I've been reccommended. Can't do any harm and a mechanic I know said he's seen amazing results in the past...
Also may try to find a code reader that can read faults that have occured while running. Does the EEC IV system store old fault codes if one occurs?
