Can anybody tell me the source of the ignition switch on an S3 please. I am refering to the electrical side of it not the barrel and key. Have tried doing a trawl but just came up with the possibility that the S2 one is Escort Mk3. Thanks.

Not certain about the S2, but I think it's either Mk3 Escort or Transit.

Take a good look at it, then try your local Ford parts department as they have detailed pictures of all components so you should be able to do a visual comparison.

dont know if its the same bit but the stalks were off an early sierra. the transit thing is correct too but i think they were talking about 90 quid for it at ford. i found one in the scrappy and its still working a year on! just take it with you to match it as there were a few different designs.
cheers

Thanks for the help. I have just had to replace the four way connector just down from this ignition switch due to usual overheating of connector block. I had to shorten the wires from the ignition switch to the connector block and whilst it is all working I may consider changing the switch at a later date to allow a bit more freedom of movement. I believe the problem connector block was off a Transit but didn't know about the switch so maybe a trip to the scrappy is in order as you say.

Try www.quickco.co.uk they supply all Ford dealers with parts, I replaced my switch a couple of years ago, only like a fool I didn't keep hold of the part number.

Despite the fact that they told me it was off a german market only Sierra they had one in stock. About £30 IRC.
