S1 door question

I have taken my door of to try and adjust it the problem is
that someone has tried to put a new hinge in the top, top one
10mm and the bottom is 8mm but they have not done it very well
and had to put a bit of steel over it to strengthen it so i cant
get the door up high enough would it be a hard job to cut it out
and start again or is it not the sort of thing to try any thoughts

Is the reinforcement removed in that picture? I can't see anything. Any reason you need the reinforcement? If you leave it off, does it solve the clearance problems?
If you definitely don't have enough height yet, how much height do you need to gain? Remember it's only the height of the front of the door you're adjusting, the rear height is adjusted by sliding the sleeves relative to the door. If you definitely need to get more clearance you could probably gain another couple of mil by grinding the face off that bobbin, but if it's only a mil or two then surely the door is probably close enough anyway, isn't it?

can see without it it is very weak and moves about i was
thinking of grinding the nylon bush down a bit but didn't
know if it would weaken it i will have to put it back on tomorrow
got MOT this weekend and have a fiddle with it next week

Sounds to me like the bobbin is actually loose and rather than fix it, the previous owner has bodged it by putting a plate over the top. In that case the right answer is to remove it completely, clean up the hole, rebuild the surrounding bodywork as necessary and then bond the bobbin back in place. It's OK to use that plate to hold it in position while everything sets but that shouldn't be what locates the door.can see without it it is very weak and moves about i was
