Transmission tunnel bolts

Good Evening all,

Help please !

I am just about 1hrs work away from lifting the body off my S2 but...........I am dammed if I can find the 2 bolts on the transmission tunnel under the dash ! I have taken out the radio and pulled back the centre console but to no avail and I dont yet want to try to lift the body with a jack to see if it will lift until I am certain that I may be one of those lucky people who (probably just suffer lots of scuttle shake) does not have these two bolts fitted.

I have attached a photo of where I am looking...... at the top centre is what I believe is the heater unit, they wouldnt be up as far as that would they if so the heater would have to come out ?

I cant even see any holes where bolts should be and have been left out, or if they arent fitted would there not be holes ?

Could someone just confirm to me that I am in the right place and that I dont need a trip to specsavers. Thanks in anticipation......

By the way the wiring on this is not good.......... added wiring with lots of fault inducing 'scotch locks' if I get this back togther without a fire or at least some blown fuses I'll be amazed !

the s2 does not have the bolts in the tunnel at the top the s3 does the book is wrong

Thanks for the replies you have put my mind at rest !

I will probably have a day off today and try to lift the body a little way maybe this weekend ! The outriggers look very surface type rusty but not too bad, a good thump with a hammer and they sound solid enough, but I'll definitely not kid myself yet. I want to get the body off anyway and give it a good derust and paint to preserve it. If any welding needs to be done it will also get done.....this is not a job I would want to take on regularly ! Having said that I started on Wed Morning and I only need to disconnect items in the engine bay now !

hi dont forget the rubber pipe between the fuel filler and the fuel tank accessed from the boot

Hi Ken

Yes I remembered this but blimey TVR use a very good glue for the carpet... took me ages to get in to the hose clips. Took the pipe and filler cap right out just in case.. but there is a lot of sealer around the tank neck up into the boot so need to clear that too !

no after you undo the clips move them away if poss and just try to turn the flexible pipe if it moves the body will come off ok just remember that when you put the body back on make sure you fit it all back on BEFORE you bolt the body back down it will be so much easier ps if the rubber pipe gets damaged Burtons sell it

Thanks for that...decided to have the weekend off but will give it a go as you suggest on Monday...

Just have the handbrake cable and the clutch/brakepipes along with a few hoses and the engine electrics so am nearly there.
