New chassis for the S Series

Serious question - would you like a brand new chassis?

Well it might be possible as I have been to see someone today who could make them. he current builds chassis for M Series, grantura Tasmin etc. I have seen them in his workshop, only 15mins drive from my home.

He has considered making S chassis in the past but dosent know if there would be a market for them.

Would many/any of you be interested as they would cost less than £2k (no VAT) built to original spec and guaranteed no rust or corrosion.

If there is any degree of interest I am very to liaise with him.

If they came in under £2K then I would have considered it when I had mine overhauled 3 years ago, if you can't do the welding yourself this could be a reasonable option. You would have to want to keep the car in the current second hand price climate though.

I would say if it will cover all S's make a V8S / S4 chassis then you only need one design.
It seems a good opportunity but I understand the chaps that build them are semi retired and turn out about one a month, so capacity is limited.
Personally I think £1500 is taking the p!ss, its worth every penny of £2k.

I would be interested - a new chassis could produce a vehicle which would outlast me! A considered decision which may end up in the chassis sitting in the corner of the garage for a few years. It makes refurbishment easier transferring bits from one chassis to another rather than a complete strip and then rebuild some time later. It has to be a heart decision instead of a rational, financial based return one. But then, who has an S series and looks at it in pound notes?

One other question - are there any good CAD engineers who can analyse the chassis and determine where additional stiffening would yield benefits in terms of handling or reduced body stress? I mean someone who knows what they are doing rather than speculating. I don't think originality is paramount.

I bet this will start a lively debate....

Having seen the guys and their work, I don't doubt they could do it. Really interesting chaps, amazing things they are building

Don't need one at the moment but would be interested at some time in the future. If a quality product then 2k is good value

I don't own the rights to the trailing arms so cannot make new items.

They had a wedge chassis there, but it was not a new one

I suspect if they have a decent one to make a jig from they would consider it.

Whats the deal with the DVLA when you have a full new Chassis made (not by the original manufacturer) ? are they OK or does it need re-registered as a "Kit" car ? what Chassis number does it get ?

just wondering ...

£2500 does seem a bargain... (if you are keeping the car)
