Hi all

Got a very odd problem on my V8S, the engine starts to cut out when turning left at speed, like when you turn off a roundabout at speed. very odd

its the only time i can get it to cut out, its also more than a miss, it sound like the engine actually completely cuts out.

any ideas

Fuel starvation because of throttle pots?

Dunno, it's a wild guess.

Try the electrical connectors to the ignition switch! Maybe the wires are catching or shorting onto the column in a certain position and effectively switching the engine off?

Could be fuel surge, if you're low on fuel?

Failing that, piggy back a test light across the fuel pump to confirm it isn't a simple electrical failure here. If that is all OK I'd try nudging all the wires and sensor connections round the engine bay to see if you have an intermittant connection anywhere. Then the same in the rats nest in the passenger's footwell.

Really sorry to post on this link but C14PPY did you receive my e-mail yesterday? I sometimes have problems e-mailing via Pistonheads for some reason. If not just send me an e-mail to slichapman@aol.com and I will respond.

Believe it or not I had exactly the same problem about a year ago on my V8S. Every time I turned left the engine cut-out, straightened up and it burst back into life. Fun trying to get home and source of great amusement for my GF!

Took ages to find. Turned out it was a loose lead broken away from the fuel cut-off switch (cuts fuel to engine if you crash). Left turn was flexing the chassis/body enough for the lead to short out on the nearest earth.

Don't know if yours has the same problem but the symptoms sound *exactly* the same - worth a look.

Darren, check the wiring to the fuel pump. also check the wiring to the injectors. I had a similar problem, It was compounded by a dodgy fuel pump, but the problem was an injector wire shorting out on the engine. When the car went around a corner, the movement was enough. I put all my Wires through flame retardent ducting, and never had teh problem since.

thanks for all the advise, but I think I know what the problem is now.

The car has just come back from having the wiring done, so it looks like when the 'rats next' was put back there maybe some problems there, we also had the 'little rats nest' out from behind the steering wheel, so may have a short there, will rip it out again this weekend and will sort it. shouldn't be a problem.

hell, we sorted the heater, so a small short shouldn't be a problem

C14ppy when people cant get hold of you its hardly surprising the car hasnt sold? Chippy Wedge wants to look at the car but cant get hold of you, send him a mail, he seems keen.

Just an update.

1. Ian has bought a S3, rather than my V8S, I actually advised him this on the phone, not a good idea when trying to sell a car, but hey nevermind

2. Found the source of the cutting out, it was the old alarm on the car, must have got water in it, but even when switched to passive mode it was bleeping and flashing lights and trying to cut the engine, getting it riped out tomorrow

again, thanks for all the advise, gave me the ideas which I eventually used to track down the real problem
