Hi all, having a bit of bother getting my S to idle properly, if revved it fails to drop below 2k for ages and throttle response is sometimes poor. I've twice cleaned the idle control valve and checked for air leaks but can't see anything. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Is that the little one just in front of the idle control valve?

its the one right at the front there are 2 one controls the gauge the other is for the ecu i know this may sound daft but if the ecu thinks the engine is cold it will compensate for it mine used to take about 30 seconds for the revs to drop from 1800 back to 1200, after i changed it it returned to 900 straight away

The ISCV is fixed the the front of that, and the throttle pot is fixed to the end of the throttle butterfly shaft. The ecu temp sensor is under all that, under the two throttle bodies, and screws into the front of the nearside head.

I had the same problem as the OP and ken, and replaced that sensor and the problem went away.

Before then, I found that you had to "reset" the ecu's temp range if you disconnected the battery - it seemed to forget where "hot" was and over-fuelled the idle because it thought the engine was cold. TO cure that, I let the engine warm up till the fans cut in, and went off again. The next time I used the car, it would be file - that "high idle" for 5 or 6 seconds had gone - until I disconnected the battery next time and had to go through all that again.

I don't think the Scorpio diagnostics article really deals with this problem - I can't remember but it was me who found that article in the first place!
