electric mirror removal S3C

i need to remove my drivers side mirror as it seems to have a lot of movement on it ie up and down i need to see whats going on with it as it may be damaged not sure yet whats the best way to remove nigel.

Unplug the wiring inside the door - go in thorough the speaker hole.

Remove the glass - insert a small screwdriver at the bottom and pull back the catch, make sure you catch the glass as it drops out.

You can then get to the nut on the top of the "tower". If you undo this you can remove the majority of the mirror.

Once this is done pull off the black trim around the "tower"

Next get a small allen key into the securing bolt - this will be a bh and you will need to modify a standard key to fit in the clearance.

The tower then comes off

The insert then unscrews and the cabling can be withdrawn through the hole.

Find out what the issue was repair and refit.

This all ussumes you have the citroen mirrors with the recess in the door.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THIS TASK - IT IS A bh

It is a 'kin awfull job to try and get enough purchase on the allan key to tighten the thing , I cheated and drilled a small hole through both parts ( it is apparent when you have stripped it down )and then screwed in a self tapper to secure.

The alternative approach is to unscrew the mirror housing, tripod mount and mounting sleeve off the threaded boss in the door as a complete assembly, make any changes needed and then screw it back on. You do have to take care of the wiring if you do this, and also make sure you don't apply so much force that you break the tripod, but it avoids some very awkward fiddling around with allen keys and trim and so on right next to the paintwork.
