My drivers window winder has always had a few degrees of the circle that didn't do anything, just ground gears together. It has recently got worse and worse until TiTT4 when it gave up the ghost completely so now I can't get the window up or down.

Took the mechanism out today (well as much as the cable will let me) and I can see the cog the handle is attached to has stripped its teeth so I think its time for a new mechanism.

Does anyone know firstly how to disconnect the damn wire that pulls the window up and down, and secondly where i can get a new/replacement part.

Thanks all,

Tom

Anyone have any ideas?

Think I may have to figure some way of removing the mechanism and taking it to a motor factors to see if they can figure it out

Thanks for the offer Norman but hopefully I won't have to go that far!

For information the part is listed as part S28U 10018 (for the drivers door) and it is from a '79-'84 Audi 80/90. Only problem was it was discontinued in May 2004 so the search is on.

BTW thanks to Neil at TVRCarParts for the info.

Hi Tom

you should post a picture of the item... I dont suppose there will be many donor cars still available so you might need to use something else... would a later rear door winder do the job ? most front doors would be electric after the model you are looking at and dont discount the VW Golf/Polo of the era as many parts were shared and there will probably be more of those around...

ebay is your friend I think

good luck

K wink

Thought i'd revive this topic with some picture incase anyone has any ideas and because the regulator is currently sitting in my 'TVR parts room'

I've cleaned it up (well i've got the worst of the gunk off) and to fix it would require drilling out the rivet things that hold it together and I have no idea how I would reassemble it afterwards. Wish they had used screws.

From ebay pictures I have figured out the Audi 80 B3 regulator wouldn't fit and it needs to be a B2. Also the Mk1-4 golf aren't the same and I can't find a Polo one that is similar either. Thanks for the idea though Kev.

If anyone else has some ideas I would love to hear them but I may drill the rivets out anyway and try and fix it. I'll worry about assembly ideas later, unless someone has a spot welder tongue out

Help is at hand - I recently had the same problem and sourced a new one from http://www.quattrocorner.com/, helpful and quick delivery. They sourced it from gemany I believe. for about 100 quid or so

It was originally off an audi 80, 1979 - 1987 part number 813837399D
