I want to take the other half to London on Saturday, ideally by car. What's the cheapest way of doing this?

I couldn't work out exactly where you can park for free, but either parking in the centre or a mate has suggested parking somewhere like Ealing broadway and getting the tube from there, as we'll need the tube anyway.

Any suggestions most welcome!

where are you coming from (presumably west), where are you going to, what time are you looking at arriving and what time leaving?

Coming from Swindon, going to a few places in London, probably be there around 12 or so and leave by about 7.

you could leave the car somewhere like Richmond and go in to central london on district line, or Hounslow and go in on Picadilly Line.

i'd do the 2nd option as the piccadilly line cuts right through the west end.

You can park for free in many places on the weekend, but you'll need local knowledge and we don't know where you are going. If you are coming from the West then the last few miles can take an hour though, so it may simply be better to stop short, pay a little to park, and take the train/tube.

ETA- Try NCP's website. It isn't always extortionate.

nono Match at Twickenham on Saturday so avoid the area like the plague. Sail on down the M4.

You can park for free on Saturday afternoon in quite a few streets especially those around Gloucester Rd.

Try this

Congestion charge does not apply.

Be careful and make sure you are in a parking bay and not specifically a residents or diplomatic bay etc. Caveat emptor.

Northfields is a good option. Lots of roads within a few minutes walking distance of the Picadilly tube without parking permits.
