My daughter is graduating from Leicester University in July and I want to book a top restaurant either in or near Leicester for a celebratory lunch. Champagne, white linen, excellent food and a meal/place to remember. It doesn't have to be over formal but it must be special. It will be midweek if that makes a difference.

Any suggestions please?

Many thanks.

A friend of mine part owns a quite expensive, very nice and unusual restaurant near the centre.

Food is excellent.

Google Maiyango:

Yes Maiyango is very nice. As in Entropy, http://www.entropylife.com/

There are others listed on www.goleicestershire.com website.

Hambleton Hall is fantastic if you don't mind a little drive out of Leicester:

This would get my vote - been many times. Wonderful setting, although you will have to cross over into Rutland, the food is outstanding. Reckon about 30/40 minutes in the car.

Ditto - my parents and various family friends go here on special occasions and travel all the way from Nottingham.

Thanks very much for the recommendations. I had found Maiyango on a Google search and it looked good but the menu is quite short and I couldn't find a wine list.

Hambleton Hall is exactly what I am looking for and with the thumbs up from so many PH'ers I am going to make a booking.

Thank you to everyone.

Excellent choice.

I really hope you enjoy it. If it's a nice day make a point of walking down to Rutland Water from the hotel.

I like my wines, so always prefer to choose myself, but Hambleton Hall is one of the few places where I let them do the work for me - Dominic is a cracking sommelier.

Lady B.J.W and I had a mini honeymoon at Hambleton Hall in August 2007. Unfortunately, we never got round to the proper one, so Hambleton holds really fond memories for me.

Let us know how you get on.

Hambleton Hall certainly has the majestic surroundings, The Woodhouse is definitely smaller, cosier and more intimate but equally 'special' and closer to the University so really depends what you think will best fit the occasion. Doubt you'll be disappointed either way!
