Now then,
New/old member (locked out of old email address, forgotten PH password) of PH needing some advice. I'm back in UK full time now and will be starting a new job in Walsall at the beginning of August. I've found a place to live short term but will be looking to buy shortly. I don't know the area at all but I’m looking for a safe area with a bit of nightlife within reach for a single 26 year old male. I've had a look at places in Edgbaston and Sutton Coldfield so far, anywhere else I should look?

Regards,
Steve

Hi Steve,

I would recommend Sutton Coldfield, I don't live there myself but I do know a fair few people who do and I travel through there on a regular basis and it really is a lovely place smile
It's close to Birmingham which is handy for nights out as Bowler said, plus Sutton itself also has good nightlife so you don't have to travel to Birmingham every time you want to go out smile

Hope this helps,
Tom

Lived in Lichfield an Sutton Coldfield.

I suspect you are a young man.

Nightlife in Sutton Coldfield is excellent and area is pretty good.

Four Oaks or Mere Green are the best residential parts of Sutton Coldfield and Walsall is close to both on the North side of Brum.

Lived in Lichfield then went back to Sutton.

The Cathedral close is superb rest of Lichfield just a dormitory very little night life. I went back to Sutton because Lichfield was too quiet for me and I am 65! Good Luck

Asa footnote DO NOT live in Walsall OK for work but NOT a place to live.

Agree with the above. Whilst Tamworth is OK, nightlife wise its a bit st. Offers more for money than Solihull/Lichfield/Sutton though. We have got our eyes on Sutton if we were to move again.

Thanks very much guys. I'm going to view a flat in Sutton Coldfield tomorrow for the short term but will probably look to buy there in the near future. I did find a really nice flat in Edgbaston but the area didn't quite live up to its billing. Although even Walsall has to be better than my last place of residence, although it may not match Tripoli's weather, it is considerably safer!

I moved to the Midlands from Oxfordshire about 5 years ago. At the time (as an outsider) we decided to move to Tamworth. Really wish we'd chosen Sutton!

Tamworth is cheaper but is mainly a council estate town where most of the girls under 18 have already had their first child. There is one night club which is frequented only by meat heads and said young mothers.

I'm 31 and feel old on a night out in Tamworth. Well, thats unless I go to one bar in particular where it's Grab-a-Granny night 7 days a week.

Four Oaks and Mere Green are (as already said) the best areas around Sutton but that is reflected in the price.

The join between Sutton and neighbouring Erdington can be a little blurred in places and you dont want to be on the wrong side of that line either!

Another vote for Sutton!

I've lived in Sutton myself so will be happy to recommend it. Nearby Walmley has some nice spots, too - although you won't have the facilites and amenities that Sutton offers to be fair.

Edgbaston is nice, but it's a fair distance from Walsall. You'll have to negotiate town before hitting the M6/A34 to get there which is a ballache come work time. Sutton will mean you can do the back roads and miss the cabaret of the motorway.

I live in sutton. If you want a good advert for it then go to what most residents would call their local pub, the station. My favourite pub in the whole of Birmingham, only beaten by The Griffin in Shustoke, still only 10 miles away though.

Four Oaks and Mere Green are significantly nicer than Wylde Green, Vesey, Boldmere (where I live) and New Oscott but they are still all very respectable. As a rule, stay on the Sutton side of the Chester Road if you can.

I once had a nice chat with Liz Locke from last year's Apprentice in The Station.

Good comedy upstairs too.
